my name is jonathan thunder i'm a member of the red lake band of ojibwe and i work as a visual artist currently i am living in oneiga missing uh aka duluth minnesota the buffaloes the return of the freaky deaky mashkadeh wajiki that's the title of that piece i kind of got the idea when i heard that a seed herd was purchased by the red lake nation and that was kind of a way to help boost sovereignty and economy you know in food systems it's the right moment for them to come and help us a lot of the things that were used by indigenous communities to feed our spirits have been under attack still under attack maybe some of them are almost extinct when i think about the helmet when i think about like astronauts travelers it's almost like they're in a hostile environment if you're out in space you don't have any oxygen it's almost like we're traveling through space uh the space just happens to be here you know in our neighborhoods next thing you know you got a community of people talking about things the slice from wdse wrpt
