Glad to have you along for the ride.
It's KUVO JAZZ, community, culture and music.
Its The Nightside.
Jazz is a particular kind of music.
I'm on late at night on a Sunday night because I'm playing more avant-garde kind of music, more challenging music, if you will.
Plus the poetry factor that's on the show here.
It's important to me, not just because I get to be on the radio, but I get to be on the radio to expose people to this culture, this music and the poetry.
It's important to me, and I think it's important to society at large to have art like that available.
Its history, it's American history.
Some people will put on music and talk all the way through it.
But me, I'm listening here.
I'm also responding to people calling or texting.
It's just having a good time playing music.
There is work involved running our spots and stuff like that, announcements and all that.
Making sure that everything is running okay.
That's flautist Nicole Mitchell with poet Haki Madhubuti.
We heard Liberation Narratives, “Rise, Vision”.
It's The Nightside 303-291-0666.
It's a great gig.
I love doing it.
It's a definition of who I am.
Pretty much.
You know, I always like hearing back from people saying where they are, you know, “Hey, we're listening on our back porch.” “I'm driving down to Boulder.” You know, whatever.
It's kind of gives you a visual on who's out there listening.
Doing what?
Well, I know people are listening.
You know, it's a blessing to be here playing the music for you.
So thank you for stepping up.
Okay, here's poet and poet former, poet laureate, Kerrie Joy.
I like the city lights.
I like the big city vibe.
You know, I leave my window up.
I turn the lights down.
So I can see out there.
It's part of the atmosphere.
It's a good time of night.
People are at home painting or doing their ironing for the upcoming week or what have you.
I like it's a Sunday night.
You know, I don't really feel alone because again, I know I'm broadcasting.
It's not like when you're sitting at home, but when I've got this platform, I'm, you know, reaching across the galaxy frankly.
You know, it goes out there.
I'm never alone in here.
