ON MARCH 31, 2021 NEW YORK STATE LEGALIZED ADULT-USE CANNABIS BY PASSING THE MARIJUANA REGULATION AND TAXATION ACT.
CURRENTLY, THERE ARE ABOUT 27 REGULATED AND LICENSED DISPENSARIES OPEN IN NEW YORK STATE, AND ONE OF THEM IS RIGHT HERE IN SYRACUSE.
CHECK OUT HOW MIKE FLYNN, OWNER OF FLYNNSTONED BECAME THE FIRST TO OPEN AND OPERATE A LICENSED CANNABIS DISPENSARY DOWNTOWN!
♪ ♪ ♪ ♪ IN 2020 IS WHEN I ACTUALLY ESTABLISHED FLYNNSTONEED ACROSS THE STREET.
IT WAS GOING TO BE A SMALL BOUTIQUE DISPENSARY IN DOWNTOWN, AND THEN I ENDED UP PULLING THE TRIGGER ON THIS BECAUSE URBAN OUTFITTERS PULLED OUT.
START TO FINISH IT TOOK A LITTLE OVER TWO YEARS TO GET IT UP AND RUNNING.
TO GET TO THIS POINT WHERE IT IS AT WAS $3.3 MILLION.
MONEY I ACCUMULATED THROUGHOUT THE YEARS WITH MY OTHER BUSINESSES.
OUR FIRS MONTH IN, WE DID JUST UNDER $2.5 MILLION IN SALES.
TO DATE WE ARE JUST OVER $4 MILLION AND OPEN A MONTH AND A HALF.
I'M NOT ONLY MEETING THE FINANCIAL EXPECTATIONS BUT DOUBLING IT.
I DIDN'T EXPECT IT TO BE ANYWHERE NEAR WHERE IT IS NOW.
IT IS A BIG BUZZ.
I'M SURE THE SALES NUMBERS WILL GO DOWN EVENTUALLY.
WHAT WE ARE GOING TO HAVE IS THREE LOCATIONS.
WE ARE GOING TO BE MAXED OUT.
EVERYTHING IN THIS BUSINESS WAS CASH BECAUSE THE BANKS WOULDN'T WORK WITH ME BECAUSE CANNABIS IS STILL FEDERALLY ILLEGAL.
ONE TOUGH PROBLEM THAT WE ARE HAVING IS TRANSPORTING THIS CASH.
IT HAS TO BE PICKED UP FROM AN ARMORED CAR WHICH HAS TO DRIVE IT ALL THE WAY TO NEW JERSEY.
WE ARE GETTING CHARGED A LOT OF MONEY.
SINCE CANNABIS IS NEARLY LEGAL IN NEW YORK STATE, A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE STILL ON THE OTHER SIDE.
I REALLY HOPE PEOPLE WILL GET AWAY FROM THE STIGMA OF IT BEING ILLEGAL.
IT SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN IN THE FIRST PLACE.
I WISH PEOPLE WOULD JUST KIND OF LOOK AT IT AS A POSITIVE BECAUSE IT REALLY IS.
THERE ARE SO MANY HEALTH BEN IF ITS THAT CANNABIS HAS AND NOW THAT WE HAVE A PLACE THAT YOU CAN COME AND ACTUALLY LEARN ABOUT AND BE EDUCATED ON THE CANNABIS, I THINK A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE GOING TO STOP LOOKING AT IT IN A NEGATIVE WAY.
AND THAT STIGMA WILL HOPEFULLY GO AWAY.
>> THE STATE IS DOING A GREAT JOB WITH THE REGULATIONS.
YOU ARE ALLOWED TO BUY UP TO THREE OUNCES HERE IF YOU WOULD LIKE.
MOST STATES ARE ONE OUNCE SO THAT'S PRETTY HUGE.
WE ARE STILL WAITING ON THEM TO PASS THE REGULATIONS FOR THE CONSUMPTION END OF THINGS.
HOPEFULLY THE STATE'S FIRST CONSUMPTION LODGE.
SO THE CONSUMPTION LOUNGE IS JUST AN AREA THAT YOU CAN CHECK OUT YOUR PRODUCTS, CONSUME YOUR PRODUCTS SO IF YOU BOUGHT SOME EDIBLES, YOU CAN OPEN THE PACKAGE AND CHECK THEM OUT.
WE ARE GOING TO SERVE SOME CRAFT CANNABIS COCKTAILS.
THAT'S WHAT THE CONSUMPTION LOUNGE IS GOING TO CONSIST OF.
AN AREA TO CONSUME THE PRODUCTS IN A SAFE MATTER AND EDUCATED ON THE PRODUCTS WHILE YOU ARE DOING IT.
WE WILL HAVE BUD TENDERSES TO EDUCATE THE CUSTOMERS.

TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN AERO MAG, A QUEBEC-BASED COMPANY, INVESTED OVER $19 MILLION DOLLARS TO BUILD THIS STATE-OF-THE-ART FACILITY ALSO REFERRED TO AS AN R-R-R - RECOVERY, RECYCLING, AND REUSE FACILITY.
THIS NEW PROCESS MINIMIZES THE AMOUNT OF CARBON DIOXIDE AND WATER USED AT THE AIRPORT - MAKING IT GREAT FOR OUR ENVIRONMENT.
TAKE A LOOK AT THE FIRST OF ITS KIND FACILITY IN THE U.S. [ APPLAUSE ] >> WE'VE ALWAYS BEEN DEICING AIRCRAFT AT THE AIRPORT.
COLLECTING IT IN THE TANKS AND THAT FLUID GETS TREATED HERE AND THEN SENT TO THE COUNTY'S WASTE WATER TREATMENT FACILITY.
ONE OF OUR STAFF HAD A WAY OF RECYCLING THE GLYCOL SO IT'S MORE SUSTAINABLE.
WORKING WITH THE COMPANY AEROMACK WE WERE ABLE TO COME UP WITH THE PROGRAM THAT ALL THE GLYCOL AT THIS AIRPORT IS FULLY RECOVERED, RECYCLED BACK TO ITS UN ONE% STATE AND SOLD BACK TO THE AIRLINES AT A DISCOUNT.
>> WE HAVE BEEN RECYCLING IN MONTREAL SENSE 2014.
THE WINTERS ARE QUITE SNOWY AND WATERY WITH FREEZING RAIN AND HEAVY SNOW.
THE AVERAGE CONCENTRATION GOING IN IS NORMALLY BETWEEN 3 AND 5% GLIE GLIE COL.
THIS FLUID IS PROCESSED THROUGH THE SYSTEM WE BRING IT UP TO 10% CONCENTRATION.
WE WILL BRING THE CONCENTRATION UP TO 50%.
SO THAT'S THE TWO TO STEP THREE AND BRING THE FLUID FROM 50% TO 99%.
WE GO TO THE LAST PHASE, WE BLEND THE FLUID AND FROM OUTSIDE FROM DOW CHEMICAL OR OTHER CHEMICAL COMPANIES.
WHEN IT IS MERGED WITH THE GLYCOL, THAT'S WITH WE HAVE 100% DESIGHSING FLUID.
FROM THERE WE PUT IT IN A TANKER TRUCK AND WE BRING IT BACK TO THE AIRPORT WHERE IT IS TRANSFERRED INTO THE DEICING TRUCKS AND SPRAYED BACK ON THE AIRCRAFT.
>> WE ARE DOING SOME EXPANSION TO OUR DESIGHSING PAD IS.
AS WE GET BUSIER, WE WILL NEED ADDITIONAL CAPACITY.
ALL THAT ADDITIONAL FLUID WOULD COME THROUGH THIS FACILITY AND BE RECYCLED.
FOR THE AIRLINES, IT REDUCES THEIR COST OF OPERATION HERE AT THE AIRPORT.
IT REDUCES THEIR LANDING FEE BECAUSE WE ARE NO LONGER HAVING TO BILL FOR THE WASTE WATER TREATMENT FACILITIES BUT THEN WHEN THEY BUY THE GLYCOL BACK, IT IS AT 15 TO 20% DISCOUNTED RATE THAN THEY WERE TYPICALLY PURCHASING IT PRIOR TO BEING ABLE TO BUY RECYCLED GLYCOL.
>> FROM A REGIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY PERSPECTIVE, IT DOES A A FEW THINGS.
FROM THE AIRPORT WE ARE NOT RELEASING FLUID THAT NEEDS TO BE TREATED BY THE COUNTY SO THAT ELIMINATE 4-Z TO 6 MILLION GALLONS.
WE CAN COLLECT AND CAPTURE OTHER AIRPORTS FLUIDS.
SO WE CAN STORE HERE, TREAT IT SO IT'S NO LONGER TRUCKED PAST OUR DOOR WAY ON I-90 GOING TO THE EAST COASTED.
IT CAN BE DROPPED OFF HERE FULLY RECYCLED TAKING THOSE VEHICLES OFF THE ROADWAY AND AS WELL STOPPING EVEN FURTHER TO DISCHARGE OUTSIDE OF WHERE THE AIRPORT IS AS WELL AS THE VEHICLE THAT WE WILL BE USING TO DEICE IN THE FUTURE IS ELECTRIC AND THIS FACILITY IS A LOW EMISSIONS FACILITY AS WELL.
THIS IS THE FIRST IN THE WORLD THAT USES THIS KIND OF TECHNOLOGY TO BE ABLE TO PROCESS AND RECYCLE SUCH LOW CONCENTRATION GLYCOL.
THOSE REGULATIONS DON'T EXIST.
THIS IS A SUSTAINABILITY INITIATE ON OUR PART TO BE BETTER PARTNER AND BETTER NEIGHBORS.
