- Welcome to this special episode of Expressions where we are showcasing one of our favorite musicians in a truly unique concert setting.
Singer-songwriter Amber Rubarth continues to carve out a career in the independent music industry with her beautifully crafted folk songs.
We have captured Amber performing twice right here in the WSKG studios, but for this concert, we wanted a location just as gorgeous as her tunes.
Origins Greenhouse Cafe has become a staple of the Cooperstown community, with not only their amazing selection of flowers and vegetables, but also for their Harmony Garden Summer Concert Series.
Featuring performances from across all genres, these concerts showcase musical diversity from across the world.
For this show, we will hear Amber's unique folk arrangements combined with homespun lyrics that are relatable to everyone.
We open the show with her original song "Something Good."

In addition to their concert series, Origins owners Kristen and Dana Leonard also run a program whose aim is to get kids off their tablets and into the gardens.
(bright music) - Here we are at Origins Cafe where we have started Origins Community Foundation.
It's a 501c3 nonprofit and we run three major programs here.
A summer music festival, the Harmony Garden Concert Series.
We have Growing Leaders, which is a garden program that we run here in our garden and kitchen classroom and also a community kitchen space.
The whole purpose of this program is to explore the world through food and music.
And through the music and the food programs, we get to expose the youth of our community to different food cultures that they may not get to experience otherwise.
So today, we had a big harvesting day.
- [Interviewer] What were you guys harvesting today?
- Summer squash and zucchini.
- [Adara] The cool thing about Growing Leaders is that the students are able to bake or cook with the ingredients they just plucked from the garden.
- We're making a zucchini chocolate cake.
(uplifting music) - Now we're gonna have different kinds of beans.
We have, they're all pole beans, but we have this kinds, Northeaster... Whoops, catch 'em all.
And we have these ones, rattlesnake pole beans.
So after school, every Thursday, we have a group.
It's open to drop in, so it ranges.
Sometimes we have up to 30 students.
A wide age range, 7 to 14 years old.
It's an exciting group of students.
We like to create a safe place to connect and exploring here through the greenhouses and the gardens and the kitchen.
We always have an element of gardening, of cooking, and some kind of artistic expression so that there is optionality to explore in different ways depending on the student's interests.
- I've learned how to work with other people and how to have fun.
This is where I learned how to cook.
This is where I learned how to bake.
This is where I learned how to plant and work in the gardens.
- It's beautiful to see them at home in this space and have a place that can be a safe and adventurous way to connect with their peers in a way that's off screens and technology and just be able to connect with the earth and learn from each other.
