I'm Michael Bartle at the University of sixburgh.
next On Q. What a game, wasn't it?
Yeah.
What a finish.
What a celebration.
We'll take you to the celebration and have more reaction to ou Steelers becoming the first NFL franchise to win six Super Bowls On Q. Starts now.
And welcome to On Q. I'm Michael Bartley, and this region is indeed in a black and gold mood tonight.
After Sunday's Edge of Your Seat Super Bowl game, the Steelers emerged victorious, winning their unprecedented sixth Super Bowl championship, making Pittsburgh unbelievably proud.
During the next half hour On Q, hits the streets to show you some of the Monday Super Bowl euphoria in Pittsburgh.
Also comin up, the Pop Rocks perform live right here from WQED Studios A they are the young band from Harmony Butler County who did a Steeler song and ended up being the rage of YouTube, loggin hundreds of thousands of hits.
All that coming up, but first, let's rewind to a Sunday night this region may never forget, and one that will go down in super Bowl history.
Oh.
This was a familiar scene in almost every home, tavern and restaurant around the Pittsburgh region.
Super Bowl parties that at times became very emotional, especially in the fourth quarter when the Cardinals went ahead, but with just seconds left.
Oh my God.
Touchdown!
Oh, God.
Our Steelers prevailed with a miraculous finish.
Game.
Yes!
Yeah!
Yeah Congratulations on your sixth World championship.
I would just like to thank President Obama on a nation that we love.
Come on over, man.
And as soon as the last seconds ticked off, it seems everybody came her to the University of Sixburgh.
Yeah.
Oh.
Let's go!
There were thousands of college students.
Not just Pitt kids.
Duquesne, CMU and other campuses emptied out.
They all came here to Forbes Avenue.
Right in front of us.
They rolled ou large trash containers, poured gasoline into it, and let them on fire.
Later, they threw smaller trash can and tree branches onto the fire.
We then caught this.
The University of Pittsburgh, nationally ranked men's basketball teams celebrating.
And you know, this is what it's going to look like when you win.
Win the whole ball of wax, the Final four.
Right.
Yeah.
Without question we're excited.
So we are here enjoying ourself.
What did you think of that game today.
It was crazy.
Arizona took the lead with three minutes.
It looked lik it was going to be bad for us, but they pulled it off.
Great.
What about this party?
It's crazy.
The whole campus.
The whole team.
Everybody here, we have the fun.
You guys better get home.
Yeah.
We go.
We got a game tomorrow.
All right, go on TV.
Oh.
Tremendous.
I can I. Everybody was losing faith, and I was like, have faith.
Ben is going to score like this kid.
No, he had faith.
But like this girl, I don't know.
Best catching Super Bowl catch.
It was a home.
It was our catch in Super Bowl history.
All right, listen, you go to Duquesne.
I know you can.
The police are worried.
You guys better get home.
Oh, we'll get home.
We'll get home.
Fine.
My cousin disappeared.
I'll stay here if I have to, okay?
All right, be careful.
Stay away from that fire over there.
Yeah.
We're going to stay away from that fire.
Whoa!
You're Steelers.
Oh!
After the students burned several industrial garbage carts.
That's when police moved in and we noticed some arrests.
The fire really made them nervous.
In fact, police tackled and cuffed this young man who appeared intoxicated.
The fire department eventually moved in to extinguish the fires.
But look at this.
Two Port Authority bus shelters torn to pieces at the busy corner of Forbes and Bigelow.
Street signs torn down, broken glass on the street from car windows being busted out.
But with a crowd this large, this loud.
Many kids intoxicated.
Public safety overall was preserved for the super celebration.
It's beautiful.
It's a beautiful thing.
Sixburgh!
Oh, and what do you think of the Pittsburgh Steelers?
They are amazing right now.
You can scream.
Whoa, Steelers!
Here we go!
Steelers!
Here we go!
Steelers Here we go go Steelers.
And here we go.
Steelers!
Here we go!
Super Bowl.
Steelers!
Here we go!
I was lucky to make it out alive.
We're told there were about 100 arrests around the city, but no major injuries.
And that's a good thing, especially with those big and sometimes uncontrollable crowds.
Tomorrow at noon, the Super Bowl victory parade in downtown Pittsburgh, the Steelers parade route travels along Grant Street to the Boulevard of the allies and a sea of black and gold.
And that will be fun.
Oh, that will no doubt tomorrow.
What a night last night was.
Absolutely.
As the celebration continues.
We just saw you were out last night.
I was out early this morning.
We went to the Strip District and I have to say, every single person we met was in a fantastic mood.
Not too much.
The Pittsburgh Steelers and just about everyone we ran into today was still celebrating the Steelers big win.
Number one most exciting Super Bowl ever watched ever.
So just absolutely amazing.
Push him back.
Hold him back.
Drive him in the road.
Very very very excited.
Like I couldn't even sleep last night because I was so excited.
I'm feeling excited.
I'm feeling happy.
This is a great day.
It's been the new year and call me a great day.
That led to a busy day for vendors and store owner in Pittsburgh's Strip District.
Sure you could buy the official NFL Super Bowl jersey, but many other t shirts were also hot sellers.
Got six.
Pittsburgh does down here.
The recession is kind of not here.
We're doing lots of business and people are excited.
I'm rejuvenated.
I was tired last night.
Today I'm good again.
That way I have that money.
Tired and still recovering after a gam that tested everybody's nerves.
We found fan who had all sorts of ailments.
How are you feeling today?
I'm tired.
Real tired.
And more not.
My throat's little sore from yelling so much and screaming after we won the Cardinals.
Touchdown!
I thought I was going to have a heart attack.
Pretty much that I was about ready to have a heart attack.
I was on pins and needles.
I might have been a hole in my tongue, I tell you, because, the last closing seconds was just, a nail biter.
Nails gone.
Stomach's turning.
Many fans say they just had a feelin the Steelers were coming back.
I would never, but, you know, some.
I had faith all year long.
Was there ever any doubt for you?
No.
No doubt.
I got nervous at the end, but I knew there was still two minutes left and they were going to pull it out.
I thought Ben playe a hell of a game.
No team did.
Then came out and he came out firing and he just.
He's amazing.
The way he scrambles aroun and finds an open guy in center for Santonio Holmes has made great plays.
When Harrison scored a touchdown.
Yeah that was good.
Last night's game I knew they're going win I stay to the very end I didn't I wasn't nervous at all.
I knew he was going to do it.
You weren't nervous at all.
Not at all.
I felt so good about it.
Of course.
That.
Touchdown.
You're not nervous?
No, no, we got Ben.
When you have Ben.
You're always in the game.
You can always hear.
You know, Ben, it's just like you can always hit a home run in the bottom of the ninth and win it.
You know, you have to.
You have to stay to the end.
I think they're setting us up.
They make us stay to the very end to watch it.
But it's fantastic.
One word to describe that game.
What would it be?
It's been many years to come in Super Bowl exuberating.
Crazy.
Wow.
This is the greatest Super Bowl game ever seen historically, and it means a great deal to us.
But, I think, it's just it sets the level for everybody else to follow.
We raised the bar, man.
You know we're the Steelers pushing back.
Hold them back.
Drive them in the mud.
Nothing but the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Here we go.
That was great.
It was.
We found actually a to of bargains in the strip today.
Today.
Why?
Because they were t shirts that had five rings on them.
Of course they're outdated.
So they were selling for two for $5 collector's items.
Now it's a good bargain.
You know what's interesting today?
Everybody was so exhausted.
I had some friends come back from the Super Bowl.
Say they're just exhausted.
But nobody cares.
Nobody.
Everyone's in a great mood.
I have to tell you, I'm obsessed.
And I went online today and I was reading the Arizona newspaper.
I did too.
One columnist said it perfectly.
He said Destiny was dressed in black and gold, just like everybody else in the stadium.
That's right.
Exactly.
Boy, we were represented well, weren't we?
Tonia, great story.
Thanks so much.
When I finished here yet.
Don't worry about that.
More Super Bowl fun on the way.
Coming up.
They aren't even old enough to drive, but their YouTube video about the Steelers is a huge hit.

In celebration of the Steelers Super Bowl victory, we've invited them into studio A for a live performance.
Here they are now from Harmony Butler County.

All right.
You guys are absolutely amazing.
And before we talk to all of you want to bring in Duane Davis.
Come on in.
Because this is kind of all grew out of your school.
And begin by telling me the name of your school and what the idea behind it is.
I run the Davis school guita performance in the summertime.
I run our summer rock shop.
We've been going through private lessons, you know, up to the summertime.
And it was an idea for a break.
And also I'd like to get the time to work with guys playing together instead of individually.
And it's tough.
I mean, they need guidance and they need help and they're just really enjoyable.
It's a great mental break for the summertime, and I just try to teach them, show them that it's a lot of hard work, but if they put it in, they can be successful.
So how did this all come together?
It's tough.
Pat Benatar Heartbreaker not the easiest song in the world, right?
How long was i that you were working on this?
They played through the whole summer rock shop.
They did not do it.
We finished the the Summer Rock shop concer at the beginning of September, and they won.
So they were going to play a charity event we have, which is calle the Rock and Fashion Fireball.
And we combined, a rock concert in a fashion show.
And we have we have a lot of fun with that.
So they were playing in it, and we just started working on increasing the material, and one of the former bands of the Summer Rock shop would play the song and I thought he'd be a nice fit for Courtney's vocals in the band, and they really liked the song.
So we started working on it then and.
And so then how did you get to these Steeler lyrics?
And you made a video in your basement, right.
And then it just took off.
Yeah.
How did that happen?
It was, Wednesday night and my wife says, hey, maybe you should do a son for the Pop Rocks because, like, WDVE was putting stuff online.
We're all Steeler fan and and it's just a great band and would be a lot of fun.
So we're going to to support the Steelers.
And I sent a setlist through and I says I, you know, it's going to be tough for me to get this in by the Ravens game.
So, send it through to he and my sister in law and they, they came up with with that tune, they decided that it was a, good choice.
And they came through with the lyrics, sent them through to me and did a couple tweaks.
Band met Thursday nigh and I gave it to them and said, let's try this and it worked out I said, you show up tomorrow night, we'll film it and we'll put it on YouTube and we'll send a WDVE and support the Steelers.
So we did that.
Yeah, I want to get to the kids just very quickly.
The importance in all of this of music education, that's often the first thing to be cut from schools, right?
Yeah.
We come from a strong music background in our school district, but a lot of times it's cut and the kids that are in music education usually do better in all their other classes.
And I have a lot of students that they don't play the instruments that can be played in the school bands.
So, I try to provide a place for them that they like to rock.
They need help doing it.
If they're in school band, they're in band practice a couple days a week, and I have the band teachers working with them and, you know, getting them to a concert.
I mean, that's the whole goal.
But you take a couple kids and you say, I show up Saturday and get in the room and play.
They need the guidance, or they usually end up playing video games and, and, I just said, you know, I'm going to give them that help that they need an hopefully they'll get the tools.
They can continue to do it on their own.
Well it's fantastic.
We thank you all.
So much for coming in.
Courtney, let's begin with you.
If you want to come on back over here now, you're Courtney Brown, right?
And how old are you?
I'm 12.
You're 12.
And so when you first got the lyrics to the song and this is a hard song how many people have told you?
You have an amazing voice?
I don't know.
I can't really count.
All right.
Very good.
What about this song?
Was it hard to learn all of these lyrics?
Is it hard to keep it in your head?
Well.
Oh, I memorized the original lyrics, and it was sort of hard at first to change them, but after a while it got really catchy and I memorized these ones.
Can you believe the success that you have had?
No.
It's really exciting.
Yeah.
