Free municipal Wi-Fi gives Ponca City's economy a boost.
A free Wi-Fi network covering all of Ponca City is credited with giving the area a $3.9 million dollar annual economic boost. Officials began laying fiber optic cable 15 years ago, and launched the Wi-Fi mesh network in 2008. An estimated 17 thousand residents use the network, saving the money they would pay to an internet service provider, and putting those dollars back into the community.
