Today we have a Latin band with us performing one of their latest singles: Sin Querer Everybody at home watching give it up for Open Late Sin querer Sin querer, te entregué mi amor.
Sin querer Lo recibiste.
Sin querer Sin querer, te entregué mi amor.
Sin querer Lo recibiste.
¿Adónde fuiste?
No te encontré hoy.
Noches tan tristes.
Noches sin tu calor.
¿Adónde fuiste?
No te encontré hoy.
Noches tan tristes.
Noches sin tu calor.
Sin querer Sin querer, te entregué mi amor.
Sin querer Lo recibiste.
Créeme, no entendí.
I could see it in your eyes As you pass me by Time after time after time There's no point in you to hide What's building up inside Cuz I feel I'm running out of time Running for my life The thought of you haunts me every single night I've got nothing to lose I've got nothing to prove Is it wrong or is it right?
Can't make up my mind Just give me a second in order to rewind the view Well I can see it in your eyes Your lies Your frantic strides The way you hypnotize Has got you racing through my mind How can I be blind As you mesmerize me TIme after time after time after time Well I can see it in your eyes Your lies Your frantic strides The way you hypnotize Has got you racing through my mind How can I be blind As you mesmerize me TIme after time after time after time TIme after time after time after time TIme after time after time after time What's up everybody?
Welcome back to Rhythm Lounge.
My name is Manny.
We are here with Open Late.
Guys, thank you for joining us.
And thank you for having us.
So let's take a second.
Have you guys each introduce yourself and the instrument that you play?
Yeah of course.
My name is Miguel.
I play guitar and keyboard, but also the singer too My name is Jesus.
I play the bass.
My name is Ray, and I play the drums.
Jesse.
I play guitar.
Gotcha, guys.
Well, thanks for joining us.
And so the first song that you guys played was titled Sin Querer Is that correct?
Yeah.
What was that?
What were the lyrics, entailing for those who do not, you know, understand Spanish and what inspired that song specifically?
Yeah.
Well, sin querer, like the direct translation would be kind of like, without wanting to, unintentionally, in a way.
So, you know, kind of saying, you know, I don't really have any intentions.
We did this, we did that I kind of, you know, had good, good memories in a way.
But, you know, it doesn't really reciprocate both ways.
A lot of times it's kind of the main thing, but, it's we always try to leave our songs open for interpretation to (Got it) and everything.
So take me through that writing process for that song specifically, what was that writing process like for you guys?
Which one of you, had that idea specifically and, you know, got down and started writing- For that song It was mostly just me and my brother Ray at the- I think it was mostly the guitar intro (inaudible) had a guitar intro and we're like Oh, that sounds like really cool.
Yeah, we went in, we just put our part and then, we usually leave the lyrics for last, but I think the song started with the intro Gotcha.
Ray, correct?
Yeah, Ray When you popped in right now and, started chiming in on that same question, I thought you were going to say it was actually me.
I like to take all the credit for it, but it was, But, yeah, so So anyways, the name you guys call yourself Open Late So I'm not going to lie, when I first seen that, you know, I went through your guys' music, seem that there were, you know, Spanish.
And then I seen the name or, you know, your guys's, name of your band.
And I was like, okay, this is English.
I was like, wait, let me find out.
I'm not pronouncing Open Late correctly, but what is the correlation there or the lack of correlation?
What made you guys go with the English, name for your band?
Well, it's hard to say.
When we when we had our first show, we didn't really have a name.
We were just kind of like a little jam session.
We got invited to a friend's, but, we took our open sign.
They were just randomly found out a yard sale, and we bought it.
We really liked it, thought it was really cool So we just started taking it to a shows, and we thought, we gotta kind of make it Vibes.
that type of thing, you know, late night type of thing So we just brainstormed, came up with open late and yes, have a sense Yeah.
because we, we started off not to Encomiums was more like punk and more indie rock in general until we slowly started evolving or sound kind of more gearing towards Latin type of music.
Yeah.
Gotcha.
So how do you how do you describe your sound?
I know right now you mentioned a couple, but overall what what would you say you guys is overall encompassing sound is as a group.
Think it just comes from a bunch of different influences.
We all we all put in our part.
We all have our own different, styles that we, prefer.
For instance, our drummer over here, he mostly he's the one I really wanted to get into the Latin type of sound.
The congas.
I mean, I personally played more, you know, like indie rock, punk, all that kind of more all over the place.
And then, you know, bassist over here has his own influences too.
Do you- So would you say some of those influences are for you?
The wind, the sky I like butterflies, too.
You just like seeing them go like that.
It just, like, really makes all the bass parts just right.
You know what I mean?
You can really hear that in the music too.
Yeah.
A lot of influences I've been, I've learned from colleges, a lot of people, it's not just musicians that really inspire me.
It's like all the people around me, all my teachers and everything that I put into my music.
what's the latest thing that has, inspired some of the music that you've created?
Honestly, What's like the latest pivotal person, place or thing that's attributed to that?
It had to be, Sam, honestly, we I have my own studio back at home, and, basically everything we do is just we're just trying to stay focused on the music.
We do more rock and roll stuff.
Yeah.
Gotcha.
And so take me through the second song that you guys performed.
What was the name of that and what influenced the lyrics and sound of that song?
Yeah.
newest song that we written pretty recently.
I was actually the I was in what's called Time After Time.
Just kind of what is what is it about?
It's kind of, you know, by, like, repeating cycles with someone where, you know, we kind of have, you know, this type of, you know, connection.
But then in we kind of act like we don't know each other and then just repeat itself again type of thing.
But, yeah, that one, it was just a lot of just kind of brainstorming and just kind of throwing ideas out there.
That one for sure was, whole group, whole group type of effort we put into it.
And again at the end, remind me you're- Jesse Jesse.
Yeah.
What what, in terms of lyrics, in the lyrical content, do you sort of contribute to that as well?
No.
I leave that all up to Miguel.
Okay.
I was just making sure I was like, Gotcha.
I want to make sure that you got your second.
And so maybe this Jesse is actually the newest member for my band.
Been jamming with these guys about a month and a half now, so Yeah.
So what's your background then, when it comes to music?
Well, yeah, just playing with other bands, you know, throughout the years.
Pretty much around the same genre, kind of, you know, subgenres around there, similar to these guys.
And I know these guys from performing in other bands in the past.
So they just hit me up one day and said, if I want to come jam with them and yeah, so here we are now, you know, gotcha.
And so you guys are going to stick around after the break, correct?
Yeah.
I want to learn more about your guys's live shows and share that with our audience.
Everybody watching.
And thank you for joining us.
Thank you for sticking around.
We will be right back.
This next song is the first song that we've ever written as a band.
Thank you.
It's called Stuck on You.
Goes a little bit like this Loking at those sunken eyes You never realize that the things that you do They hurt me too Never felt so alive whenever I'm with you You make me feel so high Cuz I would love to see you, girl I would love to hold you No I can't get you out of my mind And I would love to love you, girl I would love to be with you wherever you go I would love to see you, girl I would love to hold you No, I can't get you out of my mind And I would love to love you, girl I would love to be with you.
Wherever you go No I won't No I won't let you go Now, darling can't you see that these things make no sense to me Am I imagining?
I won't No I won't let you go Now, darling can't you see that you belong with me So let's go From Moreno Valley in California Open Late Thank you guys.
Thank you, thank you once again.
We are Open Late Hope you guys enjoyed it.
