Two of the animals most synonymous with the north, the loon and the wolf, face tough challenges in Wisconsin. The loon adult population decreases as they fail to reproduce, and their habitat and wellbeing is threatened by increasing human development and recreation. The wolf may have returned to Wisconsin after a bounty exterminated them mid-century, but deer hunters argue they are a menace.
