Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorship(voices chatter) - My name is Kate Longley, and I'm a mental health advocate.
Bipolar disorder is characterized with mania and depression.
I was diagnosed at 21 years old.
As many patients, I didn't seek treatment for a couple of years.
I wasn't in denial.
I guess I just didn't want to really admit to the world that I had something wrong with me.
But since I've been on medication, I can pretty much control it, and that has been a huge blessing.
It has been very hard.
I've been hospitalized.
I've lost my job.
I've had other issues as a result of the disease.
But today, I would say I'm very happy and healthy and live a very successful life.
