>> I AM HERE BECAUSE WHEN I WAS GROWING UP, I WAS SEXUALLY, PHYSICALLY AND EMOTIONALLY ABUSED BY MY FATHER.
WE DIDN'T HAVE ANY RESOURCES THEN.
>> THEY ARE LOOKING TO PREVENT ANY OTHER CHILDREN FROM GOING THROUGH WHAT SHE EXPERIENCED.
>> IF I SEE SOMETHING OR KNOW SOMETHING, I CAN TELL THEM THERE ARE PEOPLE YOU CAN TALK TO, THERE ARE PLACES YOU CAN GO AND THEY ARE ALL SAFE.
I WISH THEY WOULD'VE HAD THAT WHEN WE WERE YOUNGER.
SELECT THE CLASS IS PART OF A FOUR WEEK SERIES DURING THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY, ANYONE CAN COME TO THE FREE TWO HOUR CLASS PRESENTED BY SAFE BURKE ALONG WITH THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY'S OFFICE IN STATE REPRESENTATIVE ROSSI.
>> IT'S REALLY ABOUT WHAT TO LOOK FOR, SYMPTOMS, SIGNS, PREVENTION TO ABOUT HOW THE PEOPLE AND DEBUNKING THE STEREOTYPES OF WHAT A PERPETRATOR MIGHT LOOK LIKE AND HOW IT ALWAYS THAT CASE.
WE ARE ALSO GOING TO TALK ABOUT THE GROOMING PROCESS AS WELL AS HOW TO BE UP GOOD STANDARD IN THE COMMUNITY.
>> AS A VICTIM, I JUST COULD NOT UNDERSTAND HOW THE PUBLIC WOULD CONTINUE TO TURN A BLIND EYE AND ACT LIKE IT WASN'T HAPPENING.
TO ME THAT WAS UNACCEPTABLE.
I WANTED TO DO EVERYTHING I COULD TO BRING THIS INFORMATION TO THE FOREFRONT SO PARENT COULD RECOGNIZE IT AND TREAT THE CHILD PROPERLY.
>> ROSSI MAKES HIS LIFE WORK TO BE ADVOCATES FOR CHILDREN WHO HAVE BEEN SEXUALLY ABUSED.
>> WANT TO MAKE SURE THESE PARENTS WHEN THEY TALK TO THEIR CHILDREN, LISTEN AND BELIEVE THEM.
RECOGNIZE IF SOMETHING HAPPENED, WHAT THEY NEED TO DO.
>> BILL CHAMPION WAS PASSED GIVING VICTIMS MORE TIME TO COME FORWARD.
>> WE ELIMINATED THE CRIMINAL STATUTE OF LIMITATIONS.
FOR ME, BASHES PART OF MY JOB, PASSING THAT LEGISLATION TO MAKE SURE ALL FUTURE KIDS HAVE THAT YOU OF LIMITATIONS THAT WERE SO MUCH BETTER THAN MINE.
>> THOSE IN ATTENDANCE LIKE DEBORAH ARE HOPING THE CLASSES WILL OFFER RESOURCES TO THOSE WHO WOULDN'T OTHERWISE KNOW WHERE TO FIND THEM.
>> I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE INTERESTING BECAUSE I THINK IT'S GEARED MORE TOWARDS APPARENT PERSPECTIVE.
I HAVE GROWN CHILDREN.
I THINK IF I CAN FIND RESOURCES FOR SOME PARENTS, THAT WOULD BE GOOD.
>> A GOOD SEMINAR TO GO TO IN ORDER TO SUPPORT BOTH PAST AND FUTURE VICTIMS OF SEXUAL ABUSE.
>> I THINK THERE SHOULD BE MORE OF THESE AND I THINK PARENTS NEED TO BE ABLE TO RELATE TO THEIR KIDS.
THERE ARE GOOD FEELINGS, THERE ARE BAD FEELINGS BUT IF THE CHILD IS NOT SURE, THEY NEED TO KNOW THERE SOMEBODY ON THEIR SIDE THAT THEY CAN TALK TO.
OTHERWISE THEY HAVE NO ONE.
>> THOSE CLASSES ARE HELD TUESDAY EVENINGS IN THE MUNICIPAL BUILDING 6 PM THROUGH THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY.
THE CLASSES BUILD ON ONE ANOTHER FROM WEEK TO WEEK ANYONE CAN JOIN AT ANY TIME.
