(bright music) - PBS Digital Studios presents In the Margins, a new history series from PBS Digital Studio, that covers the history never taught in school.
Director of Content for PBS Utah, Lisa Olken, is here to tell us more.
Hi Lisa, thank you- so much for being here.
- Hi Mary.
- Okay.
- This is great.
- So PBS Digital actually is a series that airs on YouTube, right?
- Yes, PBS Digital Studios is the YouTube arm of PBS, and they produce science shows, history shows, culture shows, all the type of topics that PBS Utah viewers have come to enjoy.
So, they have many channels on YouTube, and one of them is, one of the channels is the Origins channel, and that's their history channel.
And that's where this series will air or be published, as they say in the digital world.
- Published, okay.
And they've got PBS Utah contracted to do some things because of our stellar reputation.
- We do have a stellar reputation on the national scene.
The historical series is called In the Margins.
It's a history series, and we are working with two other PBS stations, Alabama Public Television, and WHYY in Philadelphia.
And In the Margins tells the story of these surprising and obscure tales that we weren't taught in schools.
So, we're finding a diverse collection of people and places and events in Utah, and we're telling these stories for a YouTube audience.
- That's great, and I know first step from us is Japantown, Salt Lake City's Japantown.
- Yes.
Salt Lake City's Japantown is our first mini-documentary.
It was published a little while ago.
Our next one is on women's suffrage.
But Japantown tells the story of this thriving community that was pretty much destroyed by the building of a sports arena and the unlikely bid for the 1972 Winter Olympics.
- Yeah.
So, I know they're all gonna be excellent.
Your work always is.
And thank you so much for being on this side of the camera.
Thank you.
- Thank you.
