(upbeat music) - Utah Housing Coalition and PBS Utah are partnering for a new Book Club in a Box called Poverty Paradox.
It explores the fundamental origins of homelessness and poverty.
Tara Rollins is here with more information about the box and how viewers can register.
Hi, Tara, thanks for being here.
So let's just start with the documentary, which is a home of their own, and the book, which is by Matthew Desmond.
So tell us a little about both of those.
- Well, the documentary follows families that are homeless on their daily routine, basically, and showing them trying to find housing, trying to reach the point where they can actually apply for housing.
It really shows that their day is full of transportation, trying to get their kids to school, and really shows the commitment they have for their family members.
But you see the struggle.
- [Mary] Yeah.
- And you know, there's people that are working, and most people think that, you know, people homeless aren't working.
- [Mary] Aren't working.
But they are.
- And so, yes.
- Tell us a little about Matthew Desmond's book, "Poverty."
- Well, Matthew Desmond wrote "Evicted," which was a very popular book, and then he wrote this one.
And it really dives into policies of why we're here today, and where it started, the history.
And a lot of it is because of the government.
- Okay.
- And so I really think they kind of pair well together.
Because, I think, when you read the book, you have a lot of aha moments.
- Yeah, yeah, it was an eyeopener for everybody when we were at it, I know, so that was a big one.
So people can just call or go to PBS Utah to order a book, and then do their own book club, and you provide the questions.
- Yes, we do, we do.
- All right.
So anyway, thanks for being here and thanks for what you do.
