(bright music) - PBS Utah's Book Club in A Box Program pairs a thought-provoking book with a PBS program sure to generate a lively discussion with your book club.
And here with details about one of the new boxes around the book, "Rest is Resistance" is Dr. Karen Tao.
Hi Karen, thanks so much for being here.
So let's start with how people get involved with the Book Club in a Box and your program that's being paired with this.
- Sure, absolutely.
So Book Club in A Box is a curated box for folks who want to read a thought-provoking book and it's paired alongside some sort of media, in this case, the digital series, "Let's Talk," which I hosted in 2020.
And so the two, the book and "Let's Talk" go really well together in terms of the conversations that will be generated.
- And let's talk about that conversation because "Rest is Resistance," the book by Tricia Hersey, is I think a very important book.
So talk about what she says in that about our go, go, go culture.
- So we live in what she calls grind culture where we feel like we need to do more, work more, schedule more, and it's taking a toll on our health and our mental health as well.
And so that book alongside the "Let's Talk" series is an opportunity for conversation about what's going on in our world.
Parents and kids, adults, having conversations about what it means to take care of ourselves.
- Yeah, because self-care, I think, often is put on the back burner.
- Absolutely.
- Yeah.
And people don't realize the importance of taking a rest.
- Absolutely, yeah.
It is so important.
And rest in so many forms, and that could be quality conversations, that's a form of rest.
Eye contact with one another versus our focus on social media and all the technology that I think distracts us from connection.
- Yeah, there's so much, and I hope people sign up for this.
- Me too.
- So thank you so much for being here, for doing it.
- Thank you.
- And if you would like to know more about that upcoming PBS Utah Book Club in a Box and the book again, "Rest is Resistance," you can register to get one.
