(cheerful ambient music) - PBS Utah is holding a climate conversation in St. George with a panel of local experts.
They'll be discussing environmental and climate issues that Washington County residents are facing.
And here with all the details is Community Engagement Coordinator, Melissa Lind.
Hi Melissa, thanks so much for being here.
So this is an important event that you're doing.
Kind of describe it for me.
- Yeah, so this event, we're very excited to host this.
It's gonna be at Utah Tech, and we're gonna have three local experts, Karen Goodfellow, Scott Taylor, and Doug Bennett, who are all in different aspects of either conservation or water usage or urban development down in St. George.
So hosting it at Utah Tech, we're gonna have some students give us their questions and ask our panelists to kind of speak on those.
We're really excited to host it at Utah Tech.
- Yeah, and I know you're looking for a really kind of candid climate conversation 'cause it's a hot topic right now.
- Definitely.
- Yeah.
And obviously there's a reason you're hosting it in St. George because, well, you'll tell us.
- Yeah, definitely.
There is a reason we're hosting it in St. George.
We really wanted to focus this conversation on urban development and water usage and what a great place to host it, especially in St. George, because it's an issue that's been impacting those people pretty frequently.
We do wanna host it at Utah Tech as well, so it gives young people an opportunity to kind of speak their minds on this topic as well as host it in a way that the general public can come and listen to it, so that they can figure out what's going on and what they can do to help.
- Yeah, kind of look at some solutions.
And if viewers wanna learn more about the climate and water issues, what can they watch?
- Yeah, so PBS is dedicated to providing climate content for all.
There are many different facets that you can go down.
Some of my favorite are The Earthshot Prize, which focus on environmental issues and what people in our community are doing to help that, and around the world.
We also have things like Nature, and my personal favorite NOVA, I think it celebrated its 50 years, which is fantastic.
And then we also have things like Utah Insight and This is Utah.
So it's really important for us to work on our local community and hosting events like this really do help.
- So thank you so much, Melissa, for going there and for doing this, and for being here, thanks.
- Yeah.
