(audience applauds) - Good evening, and welcome to "Expressions."
I'm Adara Alston.
In this episode, we welcome a band that delves into the past for musical delight.
For more than a decade, Peaches and Crime have been providing original songs, plays and performances to an adoring Southern tier audience.
Drawing inspiration from vaudeville, and with instrumentation evocative of the early and middle 20th century, the group performs a wide ranging set, complete with period dress and alluring choreography.
From country to klezmer, from blues to burlesque, this colorful cast and their duos will surely delight your senses, while making you reminisce about a bygone era.
Behold, Peaches and Crime.
- Our very first song is something of a thesis statement.
It is about us.
It is about you, all of you.
It is a song that starts with a D, the "Dastard Tango."

Now, the question that we get asked the most often or often enough that we would remark upon it certainly is Peaches and Crime, what is it like to be the very pinnacle of human experience?
To which we say modestly, "Well, it's very lonely at the top."
And so, sociable as we are, we prefer to associate with those on the other side of the pyramid.
Our next number is a dispatch from the very bottom entitled "I'll Take the Rest."

They say, ladies and gentlemen, that the devil is in the details.
So I maintain my purity by overlooking as many of them as possible.
And where, ladies and gentlemen, are there more details than among the teeming millions of the big city?
This is why we remain in Binghamton.
So now let me present to you the "Devil City Strut."

Have you noticed there are not many triangle shirtwaists for sale anymore lately?
Ladies and gentlemen, workplace safety is very important.
Living workers produce 100% more saleable merchandise than dead.
So here is a song about some workers who jumped ship on their job before they had the chance to be fired, "Never Be a Good Girl."

Were you aware that in the United States of America, 50% of marriages end in divorce?
It gets worse though, ladies and gentlemen, because a further 50% of marriages in the United States of America end in death of one or both participants.
But you may rest assured, I have it on good authority that every other marriage in the United States of America lives happily ever after on a big farm somewhere upstate.
Now, in a break from tradition, Peaches and Crime will now uphold an institution by telling the story of a happy marriage.
It is called "Mrs. Colt Revolver."
