(soothing music) - People4Utah amplifies the voice of every Utahn and brings people together in creating a fairer, more representative democracy for our state.
Executive director Tami Fillmore is here to tell us about the organization.
Hi Tami thanks for being here.
- Thank you.
- So why don't you start by telling us about the mission of People4Utah?
- Yes, our mission is based in Utah Constitution Article 1 which says, all political power is granted to the people for their equal protection and benefit.
And through our experience and our data gathering, we've discovered that most people don't realize they're granted that power.
And so we are a nonpartisan civic education and activation organization who desires to help people learn that they've been granted that power and then how to use it.
- How to use it, all right.
And so you're guiding principles.
Why don't you run through those for us?
- Yeah, so in everything we do, we're guided by the principles of listen first.
Listen, gather, inspire, and empower.
And so we run programs to help empower the individual.
And the first thing that we do is we listen to them.
What do you care about?
What is important to you?
What experiences have you had, negative, positive, challenges, successes, et cetera.
And so we run a program called The Listening Lab where we gather together in small groups of people and have these intimate conversations about the people's experience.
And then we talk about why political involvement matters.
And then we invite people to challenge themselves to take that next step in involvement.
And we invite them to come to our training workshops, which gives them the tools that they need to increase their confidence and their abilities to have their voice heard.
- Okay, great, and how do we find out where the these groups are held and when?
- Yeah, so go to our website, we're a fairly new organization and we really want to spread across the entire state.
So go to our website to learn more.
It's people4utah.org, and subscribe for our newsletters and join us on social media, People4Utah.
