(upbeat music) - The Pilar Pobil Legacy Foundation supports the arts and arts education in Utah.
And here to talk about the upcoming gallery dedication event is president of the foundation Monica Whalen.
Hi, Monica, thanks for being here.
- Hi, Mary.
- So dear Pilar, who is a neighbor of mine, is kind of a Utah treasure.
Tell people who don't know her art a little about her.
- Well, Pilar Pobil is certainly a Utah treasure, and at 97 years old, she's still painting, still creating work, and working in her garden.
She's just fabulous.
And she has supported the arts community and art for the common people for decades in Salt Lake City.
- Yeah, and I know now a real honor for her is that a gallery in the Utah Cultural Celebration Center is going to be named for her.
- It's so exciting, we are so thrilled.
For the last 10 years the Pilar Pobil Legacy Foundation has been working to secure and promote the legacy of this fantastic Spanish-born, but Utah local artist.
And one of the things that we are doing as we wrap up our efforts is this big capstone project of having an art gallery named after her so that her legacy will continue into the future for years to come.
- Great, and I know you've got an event for that on March 8th.
So, what happens at the event?
- So, in addition to having the gallery named after her and hosting a gallery dedication, we are also presenting a major retrospective exhibit of Pilar's work from her early years all the way to now.
And in celebration of that exhibit and the gallery open, we are hosting an event March 8th at the Culture Center.
- Okay, great.
Well, thank you for coming and for bringing work of her art.
- Thank you.
- And I'll let people know all about it.
If you'd like to know more about that event that Monica was talking about on March 8th at the Utah Cultural Celebration Center for Mi Vida - My Art, it's her Celebration Gallery.
