It was very important to have a school that the kids could go to.

I'm D. D. Watson, I'm the Pine Grove School historian, and I'm here to talk about our one room schoolhouse that has been here since 1895 and what we've done to renovate it and make it into a beautiful building again.

We had all eight grades or through eighth grade and one school teacher, and she would board with one of the families.

The school closed in 1943, and it was kind of left empty until, Mabel Folds, who was in Palisade, donated money to make it into a chapel so people could use it during their internments at the cemetery.

but it didn't get used very much, and it came into a lot of disrepair.

The bugs and the mice took over.

This year, we got the new windows, we got them framed, we up, we finished the painting, and just last week, we got the floor done, thanks to another donation.

We have a lot of retired people up here now.

Not so many families.

Which is one reason the the school, the Palisade school closed.

If we can come up with enough money to put air and heat in it, we would like to use it as our township building.

We would also like to use it as a community building.

My mother went to school here, and she was in the very last graduating class.

And she went on to Aitken and became the valedictorian.

So she felt that her education here was very good.

So we are still looking for funding to finish this project.

It makes me, tear up because it's just it's just really beautiful.
