(upbeat music) - Plan-B Theatre's "Just Add Water" imagines the Great Salt Lake as a woman on a journey through the city.
Actor Latoya Cameron joins us to share what audiences can expect from this inventive new production.
Hi, Latoya.
How nice to have you back.
- Yes, thanks for having me.
- This must be a challenging role.
You get to play a lake, the Great Salt lake.
- Yes.
Yeah, it's been an honor, to be so frank, about being able to embody as best as I can this entity that's been around for centuries and just to play and to see how I can just allow the emotions and the freedom of what she wants to say through these words manifest itself on stage.
It's been an honor to do that work.
- It's incredible, and I love the title, "Just Add Water."
- Yeah.
(Mary and Latoya laughing) - Simple.
- Simple, simple.
Okay, so who wrote it?
- Matthew Ivan Bennett and Elaine Jarvik.
They both are local playwrights.
They are incredible, and I believe this is the first time that Plan-B has done a co-playwriting experience, so it's pretty great.
- Oh, yeah, but they are both great.
Okay, so the lake comes to the city.
- Yes.
- And, okay, tell us a little about what happens because I know they're calling this a cli-fi dramedy.
- Yes.
(Mary and Latoya laughing) I mean, of course there's elements of, like, drama 'cause we gotta talk about, like, the facts, about the real what's going on with Great Salt Lake.
And it's really funny, though, too.
I think people are gonna come and laugh out loud because you're watching the Great Salt Lake go through the city and learn more about the facts of, like, what's happening, how people are receiving her, and then how to advocate for herself.
So it's like you just get to go on this journey with her and it's really a fascinating, fun, "Wizard of Oz"/"Alice in Wonderland" kind of vibe.
- Oh my gosh, I know.
it sounds absolutely fascinating, and I just love it.
Are there brine shrimp?
- You know what?
There is, (Mary and Latoya laughing) so you gotta come and see it.
- Okay, Latoya, thanks for being here, thank you.
- Thank you.
- And if you'd like to know more about "Just Add Water," the Plan-B production, it's October 2nd through 19th at the Studio Theatre of the Rose.
