The shooting back in April at the old National Bank building left five people dead.
Eight others were injured, including two police officers.
The gunman was also shot and killed by police, according to the Courier Journal.
Local attorney Ted Thomas is partnering with a Chicago firm.
Together, they plan on suing radical firearms, which made the assault rifle that police say was used in the shooting.
The lawyers are planning to use the same legal strategy that led to a multi-million dollar settlement for victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting back in 2012.
This new lawsuit has yet to be filed and it's unclear when that will happen.
