This is our third year doing it now.
I'm a fanatic for games, so I love board games.
I love video games.
I like this and that and this and this.
But I also love the cultural games that I grew up in.
So I wanted to do something that would make me and my Ojibwe peers feel more comfortable to be on campus.
So I figured one of the best ways to do that is to bring some of that culture in.
I invited a few Ojibwe teachers to show how they play their games, and then I'll be teaching people how to play the Lacrosse.
Lacrosse , the moccasin game and the dish game are all represented here.
I love the moccasin game though.
It's just really hard to get players to sit down and be like, “This might be a two hour commitment.
You might be sitting here for 2 hours playing this game, or it might go for way longer.
You never know!
” Don't be afraid to come out to these things.
When you see like different cultural experiences around, I definitely encourage you to come out to them.
You have students who aren't native, who are native.
Seeing them all participate in these kind of games and participating in the culture, I'd say people take a lot away from that.
