The East Lynne Theater Co. presents Kyle Bass’s play about a young freedom-seeker in 1839.
The East Lynne Theater Co. in Cape May presents Kyle Bass’s “Possessing Harriet,” about a young woman's flight to freedom in 1839. Bass based the play on a true historic encounter between "the fair fugitive" Harriet Powell, abolitionist Gerrit Smith, his neice Elizabeth Cady, and Thomas Leonard, a free Black man who helped Harriet escape. Also included is the Harriet Tubman Museum of New Jersey.
