I'll never forget the time that I've spent with Anton.
That little ray of sunshine.
We all deserve to know the good man Anton was before his death.
I was first introduced to Anton by my co-workers.
He was a real new cosmopolitan detective.
Oh, what an honor to be working with you, Henry, sir.
I promise I'll do my best to keep up to your pace.
Right.
I was worried he wouldn't be able to handle it in our lovely city of Oaklanddale.
Rookies don't last long here.
Let me just say, I severely underestimated him.
He was doing so well after his first week, but he confessed some stress.
I bought him a drink, hoping it'll ease the pain.
That didn't work.
Instead, my friend had to cope by throwing himself back into his job.
I felt pity for the poor guy, but he kept going.
He didn't know how to stop for his own good.
I was telling him all that work was going to burn him out.
I could feel it in every new case he would finish.
He was killing himself, one accomplishment at a time.
[music] Of course, I wanted to personally congratulate our new chief of police the day before he was sworn in.
When I first talked to Anton, he seemed a bit off.
Poor guy.
I knew something was the matter with him.
He told me that being the new face of the police force was taking a toll on him.
I poured this man the hottest drink I could find.
Then sat him down and gave him some good advice.
I told him, "I am Henry fucking Simpleton."
Henry, Henry, let's calm down here.
We don't want to do anything too rash, all right?
I know you're a good man.
I admire you.
We can work together.
With both our skills, there's so much we can do.
[gun firing] If I knew that was the last time I saw him, I would have phrased my words differently.
[applause] Before I wrap this up, I wanted to close this with a letter Anton wrote before his passing.
"I'm sorry that I was too pathetic to not hold up my own.
Everyone who loves me should know that my best friend, Henry Simpleton, has told me time and time again that he will do everything in his power to keep this city safe.
Please, keep these words in mind.
Henry Simpleton is the greatest detective in Oaklanddale, and he will always have your best interests at heart."
