Special | 28m 45sVideo has Closed Captions
A history of the 60-year long struggle for woman suffrage in South Dakota.
South Dakota has a unique story in the larger history of the struggle for woman suffrage in the U.S.. The first vote on the question was in 1868 when Dakota Territorial legislators narrowly defeated a full-suffrage bill. A second full-suffrage bill was passed but vetoed by the governor. South Dakotans voted on the question six times, finally recognizing woman suffrage in 1918.
