It is very much the craze, and I have a lot of clients come to me feeling like they are protein deficient.
And so the message I have for everybody listening is that it is very unlikely that if you live in this country, you are protein deficient.
That just is not happening.
Okay.
So again, driven by very much a marketing craze, I think, but it is true that older adults sometimes tend to need a little bit more protein or to be a little bit more careful with their diet to ensure they're getting protein.
Sometimes it just it comes down to a taste preference or an ease preference for older adults.
It's it can be a little bit more time consuming and a little bit more, energy demanding to prepare proteins, especially animal proteins.
Right.
So they may just turn to easy things like eating some toast.
So I think that that's part of it.
And so that's where maybe like the canned tuna and salmon and chicken we talked about and ground chicken in Turkey, that's very easy to prepare.
Or the canned beans that are ready to eat, can come into play.
But again, I don't think that most older adults need to be, you know, kind of really taking protein powder supplements and things like that.
They just need to be sure that when they are eating, they're including a good protein source.
And every meal or snack they eat generally, for anything, right.
It's recommended that you consume that nutrient through food.
Kind of like I said earlier, that there's a synergistic effect in foods, right?
We don't know how all these components and foods work together to give us some of the health benefits.
So we don't know, for example, that just isolating protein and eating it in a in a supplement or a powder is the same as consuming protein through beans or chicken or salmon.
So I do think it should be prioritized, through food.
But I understand that in some situations it just might not be doable in terms of appetite or preparation, of food.
And so at that point, perhaps a plane protein powder like a baby or a pea based protein powder would be appropriate.
