Master Bomba musician Nelson Baez keeps a Puerto Rican tradition alive in New Jersey.

The Puerto Rican drum music known as Bomba has its roots in the island’s African heritage, surviving for over three hundred years by being handed down from each generation to the next. After years of raising awareness about bomba and other Puerto Rican drum music, Nelson Baez has become a Master Artist teaching younger apprentices in New Jersey the craft of this endangered folk art.
