Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorship(wind blowing) - This is the official way you take off the stems.
(knocks stem) (laughing happily) (places pumpkin down) - So, a really fun way to get rid of your pumpkins after Thanksgiving and Halloween is to launch them.
- Three, two, one!
(curious music) (pumpkin smashes) - We have two amazingly built and engineered pumpkin launchers.
We have one for the big pumpkins and one for the mini gourd type pumpkins.
- So, one side of the catapult has weights and another has where the pumpkins are.
You lift down the weights, and it will fling the gourds and pumpkins from the other side, all into the air.
The heavier it is, sometimes, it will make it go farther.
- Up, up, up, up, up, up.
Down, down, down.
- There's a weight box in the front, with about 400 pounds of weight.
And when the weight box goes down, the long arm comes up.
And then, there's a sling on the back here that comes along this trough with the pumpkin in it, and it slings it around the top.
And at the top, dead center, the sling opens up and the pumpkin launches forward.
- This is definitely a cool way to get rid of your pumpkins.
It's fun for, you know, adults and kids.
- Three, two, one!
- [Child] Wow!
