To me, artists make beautiful things.
Crafters make functional things.
Artisans blend the two.
We're going to be making they're an egg where you draw it with wax is a little tool called the Kiska, which is a teeny, tiny little funnel.
And you warm it up, you fill it with beeswax, and then you draw designs on your egg You'll dye it and you can progress through a series of colors.
What's covered in wax right now is white underneath.
I've dyed it yellow, So what I want yellow I'll cover in wax and progress all the way up to the black.
They're traditionally known as Ukrainian eggs.
But they go back thousands of years.
My family's Czech, and I saw the eggs when I was a kid, but did not learn how to do them myself until I was in graduate school.
They're making use of something most folks would just throw away.
You know, an empty eggshell.
And yes, I do eat all the eggs.
I have a freezer full of quiche right now.
