We thank everybody for all their involvement and all of their help.
Well, it looks like they are still debating on which categories they are going to choose.
So while we have a few minutes, let's hear from a new underwriter for this year's quiz bowl, the Arkansas Division of Higher Education.
Take a look.
We are here with Alicia Lewis with the division of higher education.
Thank you for joining us.
Thank you for having me tell us your position there.
I am the assistant director for Operations and Communications.
Wonderful that we have had some of the brightest students in the state with us for a quiz bowl.
So what's some advice?
As some of these students prepare to go to college?
First of all, keep all of your options open.
It's very important when you're a senior to be thinking about where you want to go to college.
Your next steps, your future, your major.
Keep your options open.
Don't don't turn down scholarships but never, ever discredit a Community College.
Never discredit staying in state when that is in your best interest to do so.
Absolutely.
And this is the Arkansas governor's quiz bowl.
So what kind of things can the state do to help these college bound students?
Well, we provide over 40,000.
Scholarships every year we provide the Arkansas Governor's distinguished scholarship, which is our most academically rigorous scholarship.
Then we also provide the Arkansas scholarship lottery.
We provide the our future which is for high demand and high wage occupations, and then we also provide Arkansas workforce challenge and some Leo scholarships and military dependent scholarships.
Like I said, to 40,000 students in Arkansas.
Wow, so you really offer a lot for them.
They just need to.
I'll look into it.
Find out what are those steps, kind of that they need to take.
Excellent question.
You have to apply we we can't just read everybody's mind and know and and give them a scholarship and know to to send money their way.
But if you apply and that website isactuallychangeditssams.adhe.edu you can apply and of course we're going to be happy to to direct your next steps and tell you all of the information that you have to provide for those scholarships, wonderful, any final advice for those that are looking at college maybe.
Sooner rather than later, it might be right around the corner.
You could be right around the corner.
Like I said, my best advice is just to keep your options open.
Make sure that you communicate with us.
Go on to the website, check your account and know what all you're getting into.
Read those scholarship disclosures.
Know that you have to keep 15 hours.
Know that you have to keep a 2.5 GPA.
Really be an advocate for yourself, wonderful.
Well, thank you so much for being here.
Alicia Lewis with the division of Higher education.
We are back and we are ready for round three the Lightning round let's go over to our quiz master Steve Patterson.
Take it away Steve thank you.
Christina Ohh thank you Christina.
We are very proud to have our new one of our new sponsors, the Arkansas Department of Higher Education and here in just another year or two or three.
Many of you will be benefiting from their expertise and their help, so we thank them.
This is round three and those who follow quizbowl know that we're going to put a minute on the clock and give up to 10 questions to these teams.
And if they can get all ten ride in the minute they get a bonus.
Of 20 points, so that's what we always hope for, but that can be difficult to get.
All ten of them correct.
Alright, Lifeway Christian got to pick first of our categories because of the being a little behind today, and so they have chosen that life, science and then household benville took the their category, which is going to be music, and so they're both ready to go Emmanuel's ready to give me answers.
And so here we go now speak loudly, Emmanuel.
We don't want to have to repeat stuff and use your time up.
Alright says to identify the animal phylum into which each of the following sea creatures are classified.
Ready jellyfish.
Exotherm no sea urchin.
Nigerian no crab crustacean, no coral.
Stall.
All right?
Now, Lifeway and decided they were having a little trouble with the category, so they have stalled, which means that they've stopped the questions right there, and that way, Hassall won't pick up any extra points that way.
I bet they do have three to pass over to you.
I was on bouncebacks Harsha.
The first one is jellyfish.
Yes.
Sea urchin echo dermato yes, crab arthropoda yes, and then they installed on coral, which was a madaria.

All right, so you picked up two there on the bounce backs.
Don't cry for me, Argentina is called Evita.

All right?
So that takes us out of that round.
Do we have any challenges on that round and here?
We do have a challenge over here.
A correction OK, what is that number 2?
Well, I'm trying.
I'm finding out yes.
Kino dermata that was on house halls in which which school gave that answer household?
OK, so we're not counting the sea urchin question.
OK, I couldn't hear it very well.
All right, sorry about that house.
Holler judges have said that you we didn't get #2 correct?
Alright, so we'll take 10 points away from a house hall.
So there is no challenge.
But our score at the end of that round is now HOSHALL 265 and Lifeway Christian 80.
All right, we're going to take a break.

Each team only gets one time out per match and that time out lasts for 30 seconds.
It is a time to talk to your team to make a substitution, or perhaps to let the team know how they're doing.
And a lot of times the team is not even aware what's going on about the score because they're so busy listening to the questions and then it gives the other team also the same time out so they can talk to the coach and and get ready for what's coming up.
But they have to be very strategic since they only have one exactly OK, so how do you think this is going so far?
I think it's going well.
Haas Hall is out in front, but I think Lifeway is making a definite try for a comeback, but we'll see how it turns out.
Sure, and it can be so challenging when you're here and it's live and sometimes you know them, but it's just so stressful.
So Steve.
Let's go ahead and pitch back to you to wrap up the round.
Well, thank you, Christina, and welcome back.
We're in the middle of our 4th and final round here for the two, A state championship and the here in just a moment after nine more questions, we'll crown a runner up and a state champion for these two groups.
We're on question 42.
This Arkansas born rider attorney and politician writes legal thrillers.
Which.
Blue maiden question.
Yes, these birds are able to stay aloft and windy weather for hours without ever flapping their extremely long.
Blue Wyatt the albatross you're right.
And now we're going to have a math computation.
The questions that we get come from the Arkansas High School curriculum, and so we we try to include math and social studies and this happens to be a math question.
The derivative of a function is 2X.
If F * 3 or F of 3 = 5, what is?
Alright, blue maidens.
X ^2 - 4 No let me finish up.
What is the value of F of negative one?
Emmanuel negative, three that's correct.
All right, little anticipation there mate.
It's needed.
The rest of the question all right.
Mississippi, Oklahoma and Utah still allow for this method of execution if all other.
Blue Ahlam electrocution.
No if all other means are unavailable are ruled unconstitutional.
Name this obsolete method of execution, by which Mussolini manohari.
Red Austin firing squad that's correct.
Alright, don't get caught in those three states doing bad stuff.
OK, this musical symbol indicates to sustain a note.
Red Austin tinito no.
OK, blue made inch legado.
Now I needed for Mata Fermato.
What what kind of number expresses quantity but not order?
I'm blue maidens scaler no.
Lifeway alright, Red Austin combination.
Now I needed the word Cardinal Cardinal number alright.
In physics the transfer of heat by the circulation or movement of the heated parts of a liquid or gases.
Where there is a conviction, yes.
Question 49 this is the name of the largest of the seven constituent Emirates, which make up the United Arab.
Blue Ahilan Abu Dhabi.
That's right.
Math computation.
We have 20 seconds on the clock for this simplify the expression the quantity X ^2 + 20 four X + 143 divided by the quantity X + 13.
Emmanuel X + 11 Emmanuel I could not have done that in 10 minutes and you did it in about 10 seconds.
Very good and that was of course the last question of the round coaches.
Do we have any challenges?
None here, none over here all right.
So our score here at the end of the match is Hassall Bentonville 365.
And Lifeway Christian 140.
And that means, of course, that Haas Hall Bentonville is our two?
A state quiz bowl champion, congratulations.
All right, we're going to go to Christina and then then we'll have our trophy presentation.
Thank you Steve.
Huge shout out to both teams for doing such a great job today and as we get ready for the awards presentation, which is coming right up, let's take a moment and meet some kids who we may very well see on this stage in just a few years.
Here are the 2022 quiz Bolt Junior High MVP's.

Congratulations to everybody and you also have some other announcements to share.
Is that right deed?
I have to tell about the rest of the All Tournament team and they include Maxwell St, Orange of Maumelle Charter, who actually had a higher average than Emmanuel here, and so he is considered the high point player of this group.
We also have Wyatt Corbin over here at Bentonville from Hoshall and Antala.
Iranian, hopefully that's close from household Bentonville.
Trying at least Bryce Mallett and Ashley Mallett from Saint Joseph in Conway and Drew Cochran, Conway Christian.
