Today we've named 4 new champions and we've got three more games to come.
For those of you who may be unfamiliar with Quizbowl, don't worry.
We have a bit of a primer for you.
Let's go over now to our resident quiz bowl expert Linda Smith.
Linda, you've been following Quizbowl closely for many years.
Can you tell our audience what they can expect to see today?
Sure, thanks Christina.
A quizbowl match is made up of four rounds.
The first round is simply a 20 question.
Toss up round.
Each correct answer is worth 10 points.
Round two again features.
Toss up questions and if you buzz in and get one of those right, your team will receive four bonus questions worth five points each.
The students might confer during the bonus questions.
The third round is the Lightning round.
This is when I think things get interesting.
The team that is behind at the end of round two.
Gets first choice from 3 categories presented by the quizmaster.
They have 60 seconds to answer 10 questions for 10 points each, and if they get all 10 questions right, they receive a 20 point bonus.
Any questions that a team misses the other team can steal.
It's an interesting round.
I've seen a lot of games turn in round three, especially if the scores are close at the end of round two.
Round four is back to 20.
Toss up questions and since there is a lot on the line.
It can get pretty tense.

The coaches have changed over the years since I've been playing, but I know that these teams have played through a lot of matches to get here, and I know they're excited.
So I think we need to let them go all right.
Sounds like it would be a great matchup.

Take it away Steve round two.
Well, welcome back to our state championship game for three a quiz bowl and it's already turned out to be a good one after just one round and this round, I always told my students is the most important because you can really turn things around or solidify lead with the toss up and bonus there are four bonus questions and once we do those four we're through for around 2:00, so good luck to both teams.

Then here then here OK. All right, so our score here at the end of two is center point 150 Mountain View 110 and we're going to go straight into the Lightning round and give you your categories and then take a break while you talk about it.
And while we make substitutions all right.
OK, so here are categories Mountain View for you to choose from.
If I can find them.
All right, you might choose amendments.

You'll have one minute to decide while we take a break.
Thank you, yes, thank you Steve.
And while that is going on, we'd like to take a moment and thank some of our volunteers for for today's matches, Anita Wimberley is in charge of registration.
Joe Fisher is the head judge John Goff and Josh Duggans are also judges.
Our all tournament judges are Sandra Elliott and Carolyn Shri.
Eris Ortiz is our scorekeeper and Nita Wimberley is our time keeper.
It takes a lot of people.
To put this on and so we just want to say thank you.
Those are just a few of the people behind the scenes who are volunteering to make quiz bowl 2022 possible and we want to thank everyone that's involved so very much.
Well looks like they are still deciding on their categories behind us.
So while we have a few minutes, let's hear from a new underwriter for this year's quiz bowl, the Arkansas Division of Higher Education.
Take a look.
Hello there, we are joined by the director of the Division of Higher Education Maria Markham.
Thank you for being with us today.
Always pleasure absolutely so we have some of the most brilliant intelligent students here at quizbowl and so I'm curious.
As someone who has earned 3 degrees.
Tell us about your toughest college course.
So one of the college courses that was really well.
That's easy because I had to take it twice.
It was in my master's degree.
I had to take managerial accounting for my MBA and it was the hardest course I'd ever had.
I did not feel prepared for it and it was one of those that had to be really good in accounting.
I was not really getting accounting so that was easily the hardest.
Yeah, there's a new language.
Yes, seriously something completely different.
So for some of these students that are preparing for.
College courses and maybe they're in some really tough courses right now.
What is your advice on how to endure and get through that two big things that you can do?
First of all, you don't have to do it alone, so there's so many resources now like it on our college campuses.
We are focused on student success, so we have mentors we have tutors.
We have learning centers.
We have online resources.
There is a human person behind each of those services that really want to see you succeed.
So don't do it alone.
Ask for help.
It's fine, we all need help every now and then.
The other thing is to really schedule some time to focus on that class.
So if you've got some of us didn't have to study a whole lot.
Most classes came kind of easy, but you get that one that's really hard and you're a little nervous if you're gonna get through it.
So my advice on that is, let's schedule yourself some time distraction free.
Put your phone like in another room, turn it off, give it to a friend who won't give it back.
Change your password whatever you need to do.
Turn off the television.
Some people like music.
I can't handle the music, but.
Give yourself that time because truly focus on that one thing that's really hard.
Let the easy things be easy and really commit yourself to that.
So reaching out for help and giving yourself some time to focus on that course.
Such great advice.
Thank you and we are not going to pick one school over the other here in Arkansas.
That's exactly right, but why should a student really look at staying in state even if they have offers out of state so well?
First of all, all of our Arkansas institutions.
Are top notch, I mean everything is accredited.
We review all the programs.
Great quality.
It's also relevant to what you'll do here in the state.
So we look very closely at what our industries need, so when you stay in state, you're really getting an education that's contextualized.
If you want to stay in Arkansas, it's like you're going to know and be more competitive with other graduates later because you had that Arkansas experience.
The other thing is we're so affordable, so we're one of the most affordable states as far as tuition and fees, so we stay.
We keep our tuition and fees.
Really low and we also have a really robust package of financial aid options, so lots of scholarships, especially for you guys.
You're gonna probably receive tons of scholarship offers, so you can't use those scholarships if you move out of state.
They're only for our in state institutions, so great quality, very contextualized to what you'll be doing in the real world when you go out and get your career.
And then that affordability piece is just so important.
No reason to carry all that debt.
No later in life, so very good.
Guys, thank you so much for joining us today.
Maria Markham, the director of the Division of Higher Education.
Thank you, thank you.
We are back and we are ready for round three the Lightning round let's go over to our quiz master Steve Patterson Round 3.
Well, welcome back and this is our Lightning round which makes us unique from other states who play high school quiz bowl.
They don't usually do the lightning round but we do and we like it a lot.
10 questions in a minute or less and if you get all 10 correct you get that wonderful bonus of 20 extra points.
So I wish both these teams well at the end of this Lightning round we're going to start with bow and Mountain View and Hayden.
I'll be ready over here with any bounce backs that they may give you.
Alright.
It tells us here to give the number of the constitutional amendment being described.
Ready.
All right, here we go.

You need to explain the category.
You ready alright due process clause 14, that's correct.
Alright, so you pick up 10 points in Mountain View, got 90 points out of their deal.
Now the Center Point group chose history facts from various periods of history and so this could be about anything, couldn't it?

No challenges coaches OK OK alright so.
We are at the end of the third round and a little bit of a change, and the Lightning round will do that.
Sometimes swap leaders Mountain View has 250 and center point has 160, so we're going to take a short break and allow any substitutions.
These two teams might have.
This month on Arkansas PBS in 1930, Germany was a democracy.

I live in Northwest Arkansas, via Puerto Rico's been here since 1994.
Didn't know ain't that Quadro and really that didn't come to Arkansas to stay here or to live here.
I just came to record some music with the intention of going back to Puerto Rico, but I was able to utilize then the music to start finding the common ground that makes us as one community.
Harkins up is the one that has taught me about this great community that we have here.
Wonderful, beautiful, so much programming Tanta Programacion for children for grown up with Health Canada their cancer.
This is the real art of that Channel.
