I'm a generally bossy and take charge kind of person.

And now I can focus that onto something positive that is helping the community and helping our neighbors in need.

I'm Raissa D'Antonio, and I live in Anchorage, Alaska.

F.I.S.H.

is a food pantry that delivers emergency food supplies to neighbors in need.

No questions asked and 100% volunteer.

F.I.S.H.

its deliveries four days a week up to 20 families a day.

So that's 3,500 families in a year.

I got involved in fish in the year 2000.

Because it was the new millennium, and I was going to do something for my community, starting new and helping out somewhere.

And the rest is history.

Usually it's two or three people as a team to do the packing.

They send in special requests of things they might need outside of what we normally have.

So if people are asking for a toothbrush, you can't imagine how excited people get when we say, yeah, we can give you a toothbrush.

My mom, I think, volunteered for, everything I can remember.

I remember way back when in Indiana that my parents took in somebody off the street and gave them soup and a sweater, and that really made a big impression on me.

what motivated my mom?

I don't know, corralling six kids, so she might as well corral a bunch more.

I guess they always wanted a big family.

And the more you extend out in the community, the bigger your family gets.

others is just I think it's just something I do because it's so important.

And I would hope that if I need help, I'll have people who are willing to do that.

And it's not that hard to reach out to somebody to even if you just smile at a stranger, maybe you're helping others.
