Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky has sided with President Joe Biden on his pick for ambassador to Israel.
Paul was only one of two Republicans to vote in favor of confirming Jack Lew as ambassador.
Senator Lindsey Graham of South carolina was the other.
With the recent escalation in violence between Israel and the militant group Hamas.
Senators of both parties agreed on the need to quickly confirm an ambassador.
Many Republican senators who came out against Lew's confirmation cited his role in the 2015 international agreement that lifted some economic sanctions on Iran in return for the country allowing restrictions on its nuclear program.
Iran is a major funder of Hamas.
