(audience cheering) - [Over Speakers] Greed has poisoned mans soul.
Has barricaded the world with hate Our knowledge has made us cynical Our cleverness, hard and unkind Those who can hear me, I say, do not despair You, the people have the power To make this life free and beautiful.
(crowd cheering) (rhythmic drumming) (audience cheering) (pop rock music) It's a strange time to be alive The world's got mad, we live in the bee hive Pointing fingers at each other, dividing into sides The system's designed to control our minds We can't fall for that stuff We got to stay a step ahead Form our own opinions and take care of our heads And I promise you this, I'll give you everything I got To give you the strength to keep shooting your shot Because you get one life, man, so make it count Put your hands up.
I want to hear you shout I'm not a bad person, it's just a bad world I'm not a bad person, it's just a bad world I'm not a bad person, it's just a bad world I'm not a bad person (audience applause) (electric guitar music) The best part of putting myself out there Is when you say we've helped cure your worst despair Depression, grief Or just the courage to get out the sheets And reach for loose leaf We ain't special, we ain't different We ain't any more better than you.
Yeah, you You can do whatever the hell you want to do When you just believe in you We can't walk away Our calling is calling Spent night after night for years Teaching ourselves to persevere Our calling is calling We will run the world We will run the world We will run the world Spent a lot of nights thinking in my room Are the fruits of my labor soon to bloom The best way I know how to do Is taking pen to paper letting my mind choose I take a sip or two, feeling loose Like I got nothing to lose But so much I got left to prove To myself, but also to all of you who believe in me Even when I doubt myself We can't walk away Our calling is calling Spent night after night for years Teaching ourselves to persevere Our calling is calling We will run the world We will run the world We will run the world Generation Z, generation me Generation, inclusivity Believe you me, change you will see Coming at you like a Ferrari Generation Z, generation me Fix the sins of your ancestry Ask not, who's going to let me Make sure they don't forget me (audience cheering) - [Ken] Here we go!
(train bell rings) - Yeehaw!
- [Lubo] Do you want me to start?
- [Ken] Yeah.
- Hi, my name is Lubo and I play guitar.
- My name is James and I sing and I play acoustic guitar too.
- My name is Jango and I play bass, piano, guitar, trumpet, and recorder.
(all laughing) - I'm Duran, I'm the drummer.
- You get to say all the fun ones, man.
You get like, you get the whole list.
He's like, what other ones do I know?
- I didn't make it to the record yet, but- - Hey, you play ukulele too.
- Yeah, that's true.
- [James] You can add that to your repertoire.
- Sometimes melodica is in there (guitar music) Maybe you should sit down Waterloo dressed in a gown Until death, do what we came to We actually met on Craigslist.
I just wanted other people to play with.
I didn't, I was playing open mics almost by myself, and we had a phone call, I pretty much asked him his life aspirations, and if he dreamt of traveling the world playing music, and he was like, "Let's do it!"
White T-shirt nights And I wish I could look into your eyes One last time Lubo brought Jango here, into the fold, through the kind of Slovakian community.
And Duran's actually from my hometown.
We had a connection and that was about pretty much four years ago.
So the four of us have been together for quite a while now.
Welcome everybody to the Rare American show.
We are honored you are here.
We got a lot more in store.
We're taking it back now to RA two, to milkman baby.
Spitting some truth.
Some times I drive and ignore the signs Without a seconds thought I'm not a bad guy, but don't care about getting caught My friend, the lawyer, pads his time I think the man behind the man He got his hands in both your pockets laughing Grinding like the milk man (upbeat guitar music) Pull the strings, the people dance On a leash like sheep herd, cash advance Put enough in your pocket, your life's a loan Til can't get straight, deep red, full blown You got no one to turn to and people you owe You're a dope, head shaking, battered, broke Life is tough, man, we go on with the show This life is tough man, and everybody knows (guitar riff music) I call it as I see it, I'm straight as shooters go I might indulge a little.
In this life, you never know I call it as I see it.
I'm straight as shooters go I might indulge a little I said screw it long ago (guitar solo music) What is your play at the end of the day Should I know Will you stay down or will you find a way What is your play at the end of the day I think I know.
Will you stay down or will you find a way I'll find a way I'll find a way All right Albuquerque, I want to try something kind of funny.
I know we're all sitting, but I need you guys to move a little bit in your seats.
And when I say, "Stop!"
you're going to freeze like an icicle.
You understand me?
All right, here we go.
And stop.
And move!
And stop.
And move!
And stop.
Don't take a sip of your drink, I see that over there.
On this next chorus, I want everybody wave your hands.
Do whatever you got to do, all right?
Here we go.
one, two, one, two, three.
I call it as I see it I'm straight as shooters go I might indulge a little In this life, you never know I call it as I see I'm straight as shooters go I might indulge a little I said screw it long ago I said screw it, let it go (upbeat guitar music) (spoken in background) They didn't want me to be apart of their society anymore.
So I just decieded, f*** it.
I'm going to sleep in a tent, do what I love for a living, It's just playing music and if I just make a little bit of money I'd rather do what I love with a passion and make a little money than go back to contracting and try to make a lot of money and be part of a society that doesn't even want me anymore.
F*** em.
F*** society, that's the way I feel.
(audience applause) - [James] Thank you.
- You must be aware of James's near professional Hockey career.
- No!
- Oh yeah, I played, I started writing songs.
I played in the Western Hockey League.
You know when you're not at the rink?
I just had lots of time in the e and we had curfew at like nine or 10 every night.
So a lot of guitar and played a, played a cover song and took the chords and pretty quickly wrote a song and no longer cared about hockey I was like, oh my god, what is this thing?
Songwriting.
This is amazing.
- That's awesome.
We, he was my coach.
So "Solar Bears"?
You guys ever heard of that?
(audience applause) (all laughing) (upbeat guitar music) - Oh wow!

- Shall we?
- Let's do it.
(mellow acoustic guitar music) Memories floating on walls Your smell tattooed on my clothes Never thought I'd go through this hell by myself Choking on the thought of life without you - Late 2019, and most of 2020 we were just, recorded a demo, I don't know, 70 songs or- - We wrote every day.
- And we pretty much, I don't want to say produced, but we almost fully produced everything.
Like all the parts were there.
White T-shirt nights - I'm so used to writing songs with James that you just like, any song can be anything.
It can be EDM or it can be acoustic, "White T-shirt Night."
I think we went through almost every aspect of genres pretty much And I think myself and Jango, we really like, all those like melodic minor or leading scales.
Do weird note here and there, you know?
make it a little bit fun.
Every time we just try to push the barrier Is James going to notice this weird note or this weird rhythm or is this going to bug him, or whatever You know, we still try to push and then ah!
The little league, that note.
Can you try some, and we'll just look over, and we'll jump at each other and they'll just,... - Yeah, that's on purpose.
- C'mon, these guy!
(all laughing) - If James catches us- - I just want to say, for the record that James is actually very open to lots of different stuff.
- Thank you.
(all laughing) - We're just making fun of him.
(triumphant guitar music) You said you're having strange dreams Are they good or bad or both Got a head full blurry thoughts babe You living with a ghost In a big house in the country Too much space, and you feel trapped Thoughts go bouncing off the walls Got no one there to watch your back Should we start loving?
Give this a try You got baggage, but so do I You got baggage, but so do I I Let's give it a try B-A-G-G-A-G-E, get off my back You're killing me Get off my back, get off my back, get off my back I'm breaking free I'm breaking free I'm breaking free I'm breaking free This love is like a business It could drive us both insane Blind emotion leads to commotion But part of me likes that game Part of me wants the chaos and part of me walks alone What am I doing on Who am I fooling It's a life spent on your own Should we start loving, give this a try You got baggage, but so do I You got baggage, but so do I Let's give it a try B-A-G-G-A-G-E, get off my back, you're killing me Get off my back, get off my back, get off my back I'm breaking free I'm breaking free I'm breaking free I'm breaking free I've spent my whole life running I've spent my whole life running from myself I've spent my whole life running I've spent my whole life running from B-A-G-G-A-G-E, get off my back You're killing me Get off my back, get off my back, get off my back I'm breaking free I'm breaking free I'm breaking free I'm breaking free I'm breaking free I'm breaking free (electric guitar music) (audience applause) - I just want to talk about the new album because it's great.
- Rare Americans fans, what really surprised us when we started touring is like, how young they are.
Our fans are not 25 to 35.
They're 12 to 22.
But right now it's such a strange time in the world.
It's definitely the most polarizing landscape in my existence.
When I think that a lot kids are feeling the weight of that.
So the idea for the title, "You're not a bad person, it's just a bad world."
It's not to say that you know the world is atrocious and it's never coming back or anything like that.
It's more to say like, "You know what?
"You're probably doing alright You know you're probably doing better than you think you are.
Keep putting one foot in front of the other and you're going to be okay.
This is the grand finale where we all lose our minds here, all right?
(audience cheering) (guitar music) Brittle bones Nicky was crafty and tricky And that son of a b**** was gold Yeah, that son of a b**** was gold Here we go!
(upbeat electric guitar music) Dance party.
Wires got crossed when I was about three Dad had bloody heavy-hands and he used them on me My mama, bless her heart, gave me a start She got killed, bad man, dad stiffed in a scam Grew up in the system, bounced, couple homes.
This woman, Mary, gifted me hand-me-down clothes Shy at the start, til this guy named, Shifty Who had 100lbs on me, called me Brittle Bone Nicky A target aimed straight at my face Big house of kids, cred is cake Rounded up a couple bucks Got it freshly baked Sat down for dinner.
Put it right in his face Right in his stupid face You're not going to push me around You can't get me down, down, down, down (light guitar music) Bounce ahead a couple of years, king of my peers We biked the block 'cheersing' pretty girl's beers Did all right for myself, petty thefts I pulled Dropped out of school, built a circle of bulls Needed more money, covered head to toe Snuck up, sucker, took his stash and drove The cash stashed, it was pouring in Bulk of it up my nose How dumb I was 21 And way out of control The cops kicked down the door She did a line right off my, woah!
Said, that's one way to go down Knew I was hard as rock Knew I was hard as rock You're not going to push me around You can't get me down, down, down You're not gonna push me around You can't get me down, down, down Bars, new world, who could I trust Killers were nice, smugglers were rough Met a man named Ben, sharp and witty Gave me books about money and cities Taught me ropes, only years could've gained Looked out for each other, M.O.
's the same That night, I hear Ben turning 50 in May Yelling so loud, two decades we've aged Found him cornered, face down an shanked Didn't even think twice, man, I barely blinked If it costs me my life, man, I'd save my only friend That's something I could live with I could take that til the end If it costs me my life, man, I'd save my only friend That's something I could live with I could take that til the end You're not gonna push me around You can't get me down, down, down You're not gonna push me around You can't get me down, down, down, down Now every morning, coffee, park Walking around the city, deals light or dark I'm straight edge as a punk Well mannered and I feel free Tried to do what I thought was best And that's coming to the grave with me As I lay here in my finals nights I try to have a laugh I didn't win the game of life But I'd give myself a pass (audience cheering) [singing in Spanish] and what can be Life song Tender word and stuffed mouth With nothing but a curse and stuffed mouth With nothing but a curse and stuffed mouth With nothing but a curse and stuffed mouth With nothing but a curse and stuffed mouth With nothing but a curse and stuffed mouth (electric guitar music) Stuffed mouth Stuffed mouth Stuffed mouth Mouth
