Its a place where folks who are experiencing homelessness can come and find some peace and quiet and some meaningful work.
My name is Miss Louise, and I'm a participant here.
I've been here going on 16 years, starting September.
I was having an issue with being homeless.
It was so very welcoming.
My role is to basically take all the different participants that come and join our program and get them set up with whatever is going to help them: housing, employment, benefits.
Emerging out of homelessness is a fairly long process.
Homelessness is an extremely traumatic event If you're homeless for three years, it's going to take you three years before you're yourself again, if not longer.
-Take care.
-Yeah, you too.
-Thank you.
Within a year we get somebody off the street, we will have them housed in some capacity.
But once they get housed, that's only the beginning.
We recycle thrown away materials like cans, and we make new products out of that.
We're growing things in our organic garden, and we raise bees and make honey and raise worms and compost and all those things.
So a person comes, and if they feel like this is something that's really going to help them in their lives, then they can come to our workshop time, which they get a little bit of pay for.
Everything that would be put out in the garden started with a person in our program who planted that seed, watered that seed.
They can point to things they know they planted and they feel a part of it.
We learn how to make all this stuff you see in here.
The bookmarks, the cards, the candles.
There's no two things alike here.
And everything is done with a lot of love and care.
And the participants, they love learning how to do new things.
I finally got them done.

Those are pretty.

It restores a sense of self-worth and eventually self-confidence again.
It is so gratifying to see folks reclaim their lives again, enjoy themselves, enjoy being themselves again.
It has been home away from home.
Home when you didn't have a home.
It's been godsent to me and to others.
So many times people have came in off the street and needed help, and EarthLinks was here to help them.
When life gives you a house, move it.
