(uplifting music) - With the theme "Rooted Together", Red Butte Garden is Blooming with Pride event, invites guests to explore immersive art and join nature walks and hands-on activities.
Here to tell us more is Jason Alba.
Welcome, Jason.
- Well, thank you.
Thanks for having me.
I'm really excited to talk about this event.
- Tell me what people can expect when they stop by.
- Yeah, so it's really fun.
It's a big celebration of nature and pride and community.
So when you come on up there, there's all sorts of really fun things for people to see, including seven larger-than-life art installations that had been created by local artists and florists.
All using like cut flowers and live plants, and all sorts of really cool, you know, plant material to create these larger-than-life art sculptures.
- [Liz] Oh wow.
That's incredible.
And I remember I was like, "Is that a cactus in that sculpture?"
- [Jason] Yes.
Yeah, the artists that use all sorts of different plant materials.
So it's really fun to see what they create and some of the things that they can put together.
- [Liz] Tell me about the community art project aspect of it.
- Yes, so we'd love everybody to leave their own little mark on the event.
So we have a community art piece where everybody can come up and add their own little piece to their community installation.
So throughout the day, you can stop by and see how kind of it grows and changes.
Everybody adds their little piece to it.
- Why is it important to make sure that this event happens year after year here in Utah?
- You know, I think it's just really important so that everybody has a safe space where they can come up and get to be themselves.
I mean, one of my favorite things to say is that plants are for everyone, and I think that's very true.
And up at the garden, you just get to come up and be yourself, and the plants will just love you for exactly who you are.
- And I love that it's plants, it's nature, and it's also art combined as well.
I think that's really incredible.
- Yeah, it's just a really fun.
My little trifecta there, and all those great things that people can come up and see at our Blooming with Pride.
- What's been one of your favorite elements of the event?
- You know, I think one of my favorite things is that it's just so family-friendly that people of all ages can come up and like find something fun to do.
They can see the art, they can participate in our activities, they can be part of the unity hub.
There's just so many fun things that are going on for people to experience.
And like I said, it's all ages, so everybody that are from little toddlers all the way up to seniors can come up and have a really great time.
- There's something for everyone.
