Food manufacturers have until 2027 to reformulate products, drugmakers have until 2028

The Food and Drug Administration announced Wednesday a ban on the use of Red Dye No. 3 in food, beverages and drugs. The decision comes more than 30 years after scientists first found that the artificial coloring could cause cancer in animals, leading to its ban in cosmetics. Red Dye No. 3, already prohibited in food products in California and the European Union due to its cancer risk.
