Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorshipI'm Representative Keturah Herron and I represent District 42.
Before I got here at the General Assembly, I was a actually a lobbyist and a policy strategist at the ACLU of Kentucky for the last two and a half years.
Prior to that, I was, I would say activists I use advocate as someone who has really worked with youth and families pretty much for like the last 15, 20 years throughout that time.
And it made me see you can work with the folks, but policy is really where it's at, you know, after 2020 happen with the murder of Breonna Taylor and other things that was going on in our communities with the injustices.
When the opportunity came about for me to run, I was like, you know, the timing is right.
And it seemed like that that was the progression of my career path.
So I said, Yes, I will.
I will make this happen.
First off, my job is to make sure that to not allow any a bad policy to pass.
So that that's my first goal, is to make sure that I can impact on policy that is going to harm our communities.
But as far as like specific subjects, you'll see me working on things that impact our youth or juvenile justice system.
I have always been a advocate for restoration of voting rights, so I will be working highly on that.
And then I would probably say the third thing that is very important to me is a decrease in gun violence and violence in general in our communities and doing things that's going to make our community safer.
I'm originally from Richmond, Madison County.
I represent the 42nd District in Jefferson County.
I identify as a queer woman.
I'm a black woman.
I'm a mexican center woman.
So that's a lot.
You know, I'm also someone who's been directly impacted by the criminal legal system.
I feel like that when I look at who I am and the things that I've experience, the things that my family's experience, I believe I'm someone that I really know what Kentuckians have gone through, politics and politics.
And, you know, there's always going to be that side, the political side of things.
But at the end of the day, you know, I believe that as Kentuckians, we have to really know and understand, you know, what our brothers and sisters are going through, what our neighbors are going through.
We got to lead with love.
