Monitoring some wild race restoration locations.
between 2015 and 2024, over 80,000 pounds of rice has been seeded in the estuary Water levels have been a challenge, you know, for a few years.
When we first started, Lake Superior was near an all time high, Higher water levels lead to a little bit, maybe decrease wild rice production.
And the other impact are really seen is geese.
A lot of times all these plants are standing up, and as soon as they're standing out on the water in July, geese are are nipping them all off.
And so we've done some work to, try to help rice get a foothold over the geese.
And a large part of that as the enclosures we installed to, to fence off areas to protect them from geese.
Last couple of years, I believe are up around 50 enclosures so the estuary has been a huge amount of partnerships between tribes, intertribal agencies, state agencies, federal agencies, So we do a lot of work on monitoring and tracking, helping to restore wild rice and put a lot of effort in to help restore Menominee here.
And we're seeing a lot of progress last few years.
