Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorship- I remember the Saks buyer came up to me, and she goes, "We are so impressed with your line, "we want you to come to New York and meet all the buyers."
I was like what, is this April 1st?
(upbeat music) Hi, my name's Andrea Pierce-Naymon.
I am the CEO and founder of Oy-l Natural Skincare.
Oy-l is a natural skincare company.
We manufacture all natural, non-toxic skincare, that's all plant based.
I started Oy-l in 2016.
When my daughter was a teenager, she got very very sick.
We were in and out of the hospital for about two years, trying to figure out what she had.
But in that time, I started reading labels on everything, and I was just horrified by what I found.
So I started researching, and thinking, I can do this.
I'm going to make a product that's going to be safe for everybody, because maybe what she has, has something to do with what you're putting on your body.
They say that women can put on over 300 chemicals on your body at one time, in one day.
Because I was learning all this, I just became obsessed with creating something myself.
Most products that are on the shelf, they're at least 70, 80% water.
But when you add water to an oil, you have to add all the chemicals to make preservatives so they can't grow bacteria.
So if my products are oil based, I don't have to worry about the preservatives.
I actually started Oy-l in my basement.
I took my kids playroom, and I turned it into a lab.
I started making products and was giving them away to friends.
And they're like, "Oh my God, we love this."
And then it got a little too big for what I was doing there.
Bounce Innovation Hub is located in downtown Akron.
The whole purpose of being here at Bounce, is that they have people help you with being a startup.
To actually be in a lab where I have all this stuff, and I've grown over the last three years, I still think of myself as a really small company.
There's three of us most of the time, but it's just been amazing to see how many people are aware of us.
I'm lucky to have the help I have, but I still mop the floors.
I love it.
I get here sometimes as early as 7:00 o'clock.
I can't wait to get up here and get the things done.
Whenever I start to feel, ugh, this is a lot of work, I read the reviews on my website, and that just brings me back.
So many women and men write in and say what this product has done for them.
That is the biggest reward.
It was just the mom in me that started reading labels.
This is the whole reason Oy-l came to be.
