In 1818 Illinois joined the Union and the state’s legislature met on the second floor of a rented building in the town of Kaskaskia. Since then, that building along with the town has been erased from the landscape by Mother Nature. Visiting: Kaskaskia, Illinois, Pierre Menard Home State Historic Site, and Vandalia, Illinois.
