Innovation officer Anthony Corso and civil engineer Jane Gerdes explain the city of Peoria’s proposed solution to combined sewer overflow. Pipes in older parts of the city combine sewage and stormwater. During heavy rains, some combined waste overflows into the Illinois River. Peoria is proposing a “green” solution using bioswales, permeable surfaces and other methods to curtail the overflow.
