Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorshipthe Cannabis Regulatory Commission launched its first ever cannabis safety public information campaign to prioritize Public Safety about safe cannabis consumption the campaign comes after the CRC has recently announced they will be opening access to more Edibles in New Jersey soon including Beverages and baked goods experts I spoke with are urging people to keep their Edibles out of the reach of children after reports of accidental ingestions from children are also increasing our primary goal with the Cannabis safe use campaign is to provide the public with the information and resources need needed to make informed decisions about cannabis consumption as Jersey legalized cannabis Marketplace begins opening access to more Edibles in New Jersey soon including Beverages and baked goods the New Jersey cannabis Regulatory Commission wants to keep you and your family safe which is why they launched the safe use campaign our top priorities at the commission are safety health and the the wellness of new jerseyans whether they're cannabis consumers or not the goals of this campaign are to prevent children from accessing cannabis products by requiring child resistant packaging and encouraging safe storage keep it away keep it locked up and with more people buying Edibles reports of accidental ingestions from children are also increasing according to the New Jersey Poison Control through September 6th more than 140 children ages 1 to 12 were reported to have ingested marijuana this year the center urges people to keep their Edibles out of the reach of children and in child resistant containers but unfortunately in young children ingestions which are you know entirely really edible products can have more serious consequences the majority of these exposures are attributable to Edibles that are either left out in the open improperly stored stored in easily accessible places and many our illegal candy lookalikes and it's not just children that are vulnerable to the negative effects of cannabis experts say exposure to cannabis during pregnancy can also be dangerous there is evidence that cannabis can cause harm and negatively affect fetal infant and Child Development and there is no proof that cannabis is effective in the treatment of morning sickness if you currently use marijuana and are pregnant or plan to become pregnant you should stop using it and it's just one of many educational messages that will be featured in English and in Spanish on billboards digital ads social media and even on ads in places of businesses like hair salons the njcc says to amplify the campaign's audience they have partnered with a number of agencies including AAA if you use cannabis don't drive and if you are planning to drive don't use cannabis that Flyers really serve as a reminder to drivers is that driving and cannabis is a dangerous combination research shows that it can impact your attention your uh uh reaction time your coordination and your balance and these are all things that we need for safe driving on our roadways a common theme among experts when it comes to safety was making sure purchases were made from a licensed facility unlike the elicit Market when the adult consumers and patients make a purchase at a licensed facility they know exactly what they are getting they have confidence in their product because they can actually see what's on the label the launch of the safe use campaign by the New Jersey cannabis Regulatory Commission is a pivotable moment uh for the Cannabis industry in our state we can set a positive example for the nation as we NE navigate the evolving landscape of this industry if you think your child may have consumed an edible or drink containing THC call the Poison Control Center hotline right now even if they're not showing any symptoms Dr says it might take some time for the effects to show up support for the medical report is provided by Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey an independent lensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association [Music]
