(bright upbeat music) - Experience Radio Silence from SALT Contemporary Dance, an evening of movement and artistry at the Marriott Center for Dance.
Here to share more is Artistic Director Amy Gunter Lolofie.
Hi, Amy.
- Thank you so much for having me.
- Oh, we're so excited to have you here.
I love SALT Contemporary Dance.
I mean, the dance scene we have here in Salt Lake in Utah is magnificent, and SALT is such a huge part of that.
- [Amy] Well, thank you.
- You've been around for over 10 years.
- Yes, yeah, this is our 13th season.
- And Radio Silence is what you call an evening length performance.
- Yes.
- And it's something you've done a few times, and you're bringing it back in January.
- Yes, yes.
- So can you tell us what that means in evening length performance?
- Yes, for sure.
So we often do three separate pieces and they all exist in their own world.
And an evening length is one idea, one narrative for the entire show.
So audiences enter and we've created this really beautiful like 1930s world that the show exists in.
- Ah, hence radio silence.
- Yes.
- That's so cool.
And how many dancers do you have in your company?
- We have seven dancers on the main company, and we have guest performances from our SALT two company, which has 18 dancers, and then a few groups from the community as well.
- Tell us about your choreographers that you have working with you.
- So this is something that we created in-house.
This is the fourth iteration, and it's been a collaboration between myself and the dancers over the last four seasons to bring this to life.
- That's magnificent.
And why is this kind of dance, this kind of performance, why does this matter right now?
Why is this important for the audience?
- Yeah, I think generally art is really important for the world around us for many reasons, but one that audiences are able to see themselves in the work and experience a wide range of emotions.
And this show specifically is quite funny.
It's also sad and beautiful, and I hope that audience members are able to really enjoy it and take something home with them.
- Oh, that's incredible.
Well, thank you so much for coming.
Thanks for what SALT does and thanks for telling us about your upcoming performance.
- Yeah, thank you so much.
