Daniel Neville-Rehbehn is here to tell us more about his favorite, the city library.
Hi Daniel, thanks for being here.
- Thank you so much for having me.
- I loved what you said that you can spend a whole day in the library and not spend anything.
- Oh, it's so true.
No, we are a place for really to be here for the community and serve the community.
And my favorite way that we do that is just being a place that people can come and spend the day without having to spend any money.
And we've got some great spaces to be able to do that in.
- Oh, I know.
And you do all sorts of different things there.
I mean, it's more than just going to check out some books.
- Oh, yeah.
Everyone knows us for our books and the programs we attend and the story times, but there's so much more that we do that people don't know about.
- Yeah, and one of those things, this is a new thing you've got going, you have hired an onsite clinical social worker.
- That is true, yeah.
- Okay.
- We know, in being an organization that serves the whole community, we know that includes everyone from mothers who are checking out books to read to bedtime stories to their kids, to students who are studying online.
And it also includes the unhoused population in Salt Lake City.
And we wanna make sure that we can serve them, too.
And the way we do that is by helping connect them to different resources and other things that are available in the city.
- And that is such a great service, yeah.
And in addition, I know you have things like creative labs, you have sewing classes.
- Oh yeah, we have so many things.
Yeah, the creative labs have 3D printers and embroidery machines, and we also do performances, even.
Like, there's so many things that happen at the city library year round.
It's great.
- Oh yeah, I know.
It's 12 minute pop-ups.
Is that what they're called?
- Oh, 12 Minute Max is a monthly showcase series that we do to just highlight the different performance art things happening in the city.
- It's wonderful.
Well, thank you for being here and sharing with us.
Thank you.
- Thank you.
- And if you'd like to know more about everything the Salt Lake City Public Library offers, easy.
