(upbeat music) - Salt Lake County Animal Services, Petapalooza is a pet adoption extravaganza.
Full of adoptable dogs, cats and other small mammals.
Callista Pearson is here to tell us more about it.
Callista, Hi, and welcome back.
- Hi, yes, we're so excited we're moving this year.
- I know you've got a new location.
- Yeah, we're going to Wheeler Historic Farm, it's got a ton of space.
We're gonna be in their new education building with adoptable pets so they'll be primarily indoors and then outdoor will be about 40 to 50 vendors.
Fun things for you to do with your own dog.
So you don't have to adopt when you're there you can just bring your own dog and have a fun day there too - And they'll all behave.
- Yes, exactly.
- (laughs) Okay.
Okay, what's a course allure?
You've got a course allure for dogs to run through.
- Yes, so this group, they have this thing its allure course and your dog, you pay a few dollars to run 'em through it and they chase one of those lures.
And it's really funny to watch because a lot of dogs have never been trained to do it, but it's interesting to see what happens when your own dog gets put in that situation.
- You just wanna mock them.
(all laughs) Okay, and so you have not just dogs and cats, but other small mammals.
- There will be at least rabbits and probably guinea pigs, there's been a lot of guinea pigs around lately as well.
So yeah, lots of other different animals will be a around.
- Okay and the dogs you have?
- There will be about 10 to 12 different rescues and there's everything these days coming into the shelters everything from doodles and poodles to lots of huskies and your typical labs and pity mixes you'll see.
- Okay so you've got everything.
So has it been a struggle for shelters to find homes for pets?
- Yeah, it's really slowed down recently and so I hope people come out and opening their hearts and their homes and even if they can adopt, fostering is a great option as well.
- Okay, and how does the fostering work?
- Fostering is real simple.
You would just work with our foster coordinator and we'll find someone that works for your home and you might be interested in someone and they'll get it taken care of.
- All right, well thank you for being here and good luck in the new location.
- All right, thank you.
- And if you would like to know more about the big Petapalooza coming up it's moving to Wheeler Historic Farm, September 24th from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
