(bouncy music) Mary Dickson: Salt Lake County Parks and Recreation improves lives for residents through people, parks and play.
Callista Pearson is here with more details about winter sports registration information.
Hi Callista.
- Hi.
- Winter sports already?!
- I know people even in September are thinking, "sports already for winter?"
- Yeah.
- But it's time to start registering on October 1st for our big winter sports.
- Oh yeah, it's coming right up.
Okay, so what sports do you have coming up this winter?
- Oh, our big ones are junior jazz and our ski and snowboard programs.
And junior jazz is from age of kindergarten through high school.
So we operate programs that are like K through two, then three through six.
And every child who, you know, this is in participation with the Utah Jazz and every child who participates gets tickets to go to a Jazz game as well.
So it's pretty fun and exciting.
- That's a good setup.
I like that.
- Yeah.
- But you've also got hockey, figure skating.
- Oh yeah.
- You've got lots.
- They have, and those are going throughout the year as well.
So you'll find that we do have open skate, we have learn to play hockey programs coming up, learn to skate, and then we have our figure skating as well.
But there's also some really fun stuff.
So this is the time of year when people start doing a lot of family activities, you know, especially indoors when we have our family evenings for public skates at several of our ice centers.
- Ah, that's great.
And I know you're looking for some parent coaches and referees to volunteer.
- Oh yes.
Usually if your child gets signed up for a sport there, the coaches are parents typically.
So you'll find that anyone can do it, whether you have actual knowledge of the sports, you can learn and we can help you as well.
It has happened in my own home to us, but you know it's really fun because then you get to be really involved in your child's, you know, team and stuff.
But the referees, they are 16 years and older.
- Okay, okay.
Well thank you so much for being here and welcome to sports.
- Alright.
- Okay.
And if you'd like to know more about the county parks and recreation winter sports and sports registration, which as Callista said is October 1st at Salt Lake County Rec Centers go to slco.to/rec-your-winter Notice the dashes between rec your and winter so that's slco.to/rec-your-winter I'm Mary Dickson thanks for watching Contact.
