(bright music) - Salt Lake Men's Choir presents "Merry Ho?"
That's with a question mark.
It's the annual holiday concert featuring over 85 singers, soloists, and a full orchestra.
And here with more details, artistic director Dennis McCracken.
Hi, Dennis.
- Hello Mary.
- Thank you for being here.
Okay, so first question is, why the question mark after "Merry Ho?"
- Well, I was looking for music, and I stumbled upon Patti LuPone doing a number in a little club called "Santa Lost a Ho."
And so we found the music and we're going to do it.
- Okay.
- So we spoofed it and did "Merry Ho?"
question mark.
- All right, now it all makes sense.
Okay.
So let's talk about what else you're doing on the concert.
- There's a little bit of everything.
There's a doo-wop number, traditional carols, some beautiful, just seasonal music, like winter solstice music, big, huge arrangement of "Jingle Bells."
So you could come find something that you'd love.
- All right.
All right.
And I know they're always high energy and people love this concert.
- Yes.
- Yeah.
- Yeah.
- And you've been directing 20 years.
- 20 years.
- That's impressive.
- Yeah.
- Okay, and I know you've got 85 singers, but you've also got an orchestra.
- We always had an orchestra at Christmas.
It just fills out our sound, and we do our concert in the church simply because it's our home, that's where we practice.
And the orchestra just fills the place with wonderful music to support the choir.
- That's great.
And I'm sure they have a lot of fun doing it.
- Yes, yes.
- Yeah.
- We have orchestra members that ask to play every year.
- Oh, that's great.
That's great.
Well, thank you so much for being here.
- You bet.
- And for telling me about the question mark thing.
- You bet.
- And if you'd like to know more about that upcoming concert of the Salt Lake Men's Choir "Merry Ho?"
it's December 12th and 13th at 7:30 PM, December 14th at 4:00 PM, at the First Baptist Church of Salt Lake City.
