About 350 food service officials from school districts across NJ were sampling meal items at a USDA conference Tuesday, deciding what to buy for next year’s school lunch and breakfast menus. Currently, 42% of New Jersey’s 1.2 million students benefit from free and reduced price meals. Some advocates want Congress to enact universal free school meals nationwide, regardless of income.
