It's the MDA Girls Cross, the state championship between the Seacoast Christian Guardians and the Southern Aroostook Warriors.
Good evening and welcome to the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.
I'm Brian Stevens.
Along with coach Ken Lofton.
We have the Girls Class D State Championship game on tap for you.
This a rematch of last year's state championship game, a game that Southern Aroostook won rather handily against Seacoast Christian.
It sure was.
I mean, last year was not competitive this year.
Seacoast Christian is kind of the same scenario where they had to battle and scrap and claw their way into the finals.
They started the season two and five and then five and nine didn't look like they're going anywhere.
Then they won there on a seven game winning streak.
So they had to bring some momentum in here to the cross center and the Southern Aroostook Warriors coming into this one is the number one seed out of the north with an 18 and three mark Seacoast Christian 12 and nine coming out of the number three slot in the south and take a look at the road to the goal.
Yeah, here's how they got here.
Southern the southern Aroostook number one only losing three games averaging 65 points a game giving up 32 a big time differential in points they won the state championship last year they beat Ashland Jarrell Stonington and wisdom in the tournament.
On the other side Seacoast Christian nine and nine.
They actually have a minus point differential and they but they went through the through the tournament beating number six.
Number two and no one This is the second straight regional title for the guardians of Seacoast Christian based out of South Berwick.
And for some a rustic certainly no strangers to the state title game their fifth straight regional title they are state champs.
Last year and they won three out of the last four trying to make it four out of five as the buzzer sounds.
Both teams make their way over to their respective benches well, I can see Southern Aroostook not exactly sure what happened to Seacoast Christian, though.
They're coming back out onto the floor and in just a moment we will turn things over for the introduction of players and turn things over to announcer Bob Bethel.
February 7th.
They have rebounded to win their last four and that win over Thornton Academy three regular season losses.
They got to one to counter that fourth time.
And for Oxford Hills.
A real gut shock in that double overtime win 68 65 over Cheverus avenging their own gentlemen.

The MPA has made 17 different schedules to get here tonight, and we are about to get underway with the Class D State Championship Game.
Seacoast Christian and Southern Aroostook.
You know, and I think that in my opinion, this is the best sports weekend in in Maine, the state championship weekend, of course, that was extended into Monday and Tuesday.
But the state championship weekend catches all corners of the state.
It evokes history from everyone who's ever been involved in high school basketball in Maine.
So just to Tuesday, championships have been played up to this point.
Class eight girls and boys, Lawrence and Brewer coming up with state titles.
And here we are underway with the Class D Girls Championship game have caught some pressure by the Warriors Here's the shot there.
And then by Skip Pass, Eliot Ness, Kelly Leach made a nice get pass over the top of that zone.
The other side of it is Jamie Shields.
Yeah when in doubt Southern Aroostook can say just get the ball to Shields his three of them out there yes working against the pressure get it up underneath Odessa.
Too strong over the rim and it goes the other way.
Jamie Shields takes it into the lane, kicks it back out front.
The shot is up in him by Matty Russell for the three pointer and just like that.
Southern Aroostook up 52 here the early going wide open gets it up ahead to Luther off the glass for two and below for the freshman warriors get it down underneath and it's got to draw a foul on Bracken Winship what is her first close to the Civil War.
One thing that might be a definite factor for a Seacoast Christian is their lack of depth.
Literally, they have one player on the bench so an up and down game favors southern rustic they're much deeper that's a game that Southern Rustic is used to play.
That's that's their style.
Yup.
They'll press, they'll run, shoot the three.
Right now Seacoast Christian is keeping up with them to miss foul shots there by Landry bringing it up the other way Guardians past try scorer along the baseline but seacoast make that southern roster cuts it off and then they turn around and throw it away as intended for Shields too low for her to gather in On pass comes to wind chip walked out of bounds by the warriors we have a rematch in this game from last year's state title game yeah the voice game which we will have for you at the conclusion of this one another rematch Forest Hills in southern Aroostook going the reaching file will be called against the warriors southern Aroostook completed the double dip last year to go balls went back to Deer Brook pretty steady going for a pretty bad foul on Mattie Russell That is her first first team foul and the inbound passes batted around and picked up by Matty Russell.
Russell brings it up puts it over right side Maddie Shields down to the corner Cammy Shield shot no good a other Aroostook on top by one here the early going is Odessa right after class Then find the rim shot off the glass at the other end that too is too strong lost out of bounds by so good realistic So the guardians will have another chance to take the lead and mention the guardians nine losses in their first 14 games and they've won seven straight so they do come in here on a roll to win a much better job of handling pressure last year was I don't think they were ready for southern route six pressure but right now they're doing a great job hanging in Breckin Winship with the three off the glass puts the guardians up 75 Driving into the lane.
Nothing there in the second effort up in here by Kelley Russell nice offensive rebound beat the press against with pressure and then get the offensive rebound and here's a steal right side goes to Shields Kimmie Shields she hits the two they can score in the punches Taking care of the ball is going to be preeminent task number one for Seacoast Christian and it's going to be a tough task as we see there the ball lost out of bounce warriors will bring the pressure and it makes it difficult for any team with the ball right dribbling up the sideline is usually the enemy you don't want to do that against pressure.
You want to they've been doing a good job of throwing skip passes over the top in the lane.
It goes now to Larry Russell for Russell, off the tee, off sliding.
Russell gets 54 and a half minutes to play here in the first quarter driving into the lane high off the backboard shot.
No good bye Leach he has 37 points final Elliot does that a nice job of stopping pressure baseball past into the corner well over the head of everyone so it'll go back to some that are rusty coach Petry coaches not only the girls gay girls team but coaches the boys team to take a look at that move by Maddie Russell it's not that realistic takes a timeout 32nd time to talk things over.
Season six of high school quiz show Megan returns on March 23rd two need to watch schools from around the state match wits for $1,000 prize this season schools fort Kent to south Berwick we'll battle it out for the championship starts Thursday March 23rd 8:00 in the evening on Maine public television Just about halfway through this first quarter of play southern Aroostook with a four point lead 11 seven.
Much better start for the guardians this year than last year's championship game.
It's all for sure.
They failed to score in that first quarter last year.
Driving into the lane off the glass no good for Maddie Shields Shields another Kevin Shields.
Her shot does not go down Battle for picked up by Winship Winship off the glass for two extra Richard Winship said some good scoring games of late.
12 to zone halfcourt now he hit a big final as well she had 21 points the corners are going to be open this rebound seacoast Christian baseball pass up a very nice save by almost through the hands of wind chip she gathers it in takes the shot no good and shields brings it up Shields Paul for the player control foul supposed to call you and this is our first team that is Shields that is the first on her second team foul up in the 9122 zone pressure this time get a deflection was too strong for Leach make that or does a nice pass quickly up ahead it goes deep enough for the bucket and one Matty Russell had a nice catch and finish from Madison Shields.
Yes the first two second test picks up her first foul second team foul shot missed by Russell Knocked out of bounds by Russell.
Guardians will inbound along the sideline as does come in to Cluff Cluff is fouled as she goes into the shot and she'll go to the line to shoot to win Looks like Allie Shields picking up the foul there for a little bit 12 Allie Shields the freshman at the line shooting tunable picks up her first foul 13 foul Oh shut up and no good bye Bree Cluff senior one of two seniors in the starting lineup for coach Petrie The second foul shot is no good as well so that Aroostook up by four Das able to get a hand on it not able to come up with the ball in the corner it goes Shields Kenny Shields shot no good rebound taken down by club with a whistle and a foul go against Southern Aroostook Like Allison Landry I believe celery harvesting fell over ten Emily Landry her first team forced on Landry Forced Team Foul by Guardians to bring it up against the pressure by the Warriors And now we've got a foul that's going to go against Maddi 15 foul seven a realistic foul over 15 Maddie Russell her second team's fifth Once again in front of the scorer's table Seacoast Christian looking to inbound the ball right doing that a lot of passes over the top warriors pushing it up Russell driving right into the lane left handed layup to finish Russell crossover dribble finish with the left hand.
Nine points for Matty Russell it puts her team up by six 15 to nine in the corner and is knocked out of bounds by the warriors so the guardians will have the ball back along their own baseline shot up and no good how it is Shields Ali Shields will give it off shot no good Russell able to slap it away into the hands of Emily Landry now lost out of bounds by seven to restrict entry in the game 46 Chris 15 left to play here in the first order of the state championship came in for some interesting numbers we had the head of the gallery the head of the carry freshman for southern a rustic they can run players in and out as opposed to one at a time.
Seacoast Christian has only one player on the bench travel violation turns the ball back over to Southern Touristic.
Yeah, limiting turnovers is very important for Seacoast Christian right now.
Starting to pile up Russell Shields coming down the lane.
Maddie Shields and Shields gets her first two points of the game.
Right in the corner and guess can't find room to shoot it over to Leach.
Let's get past the right side.
The shot to strong by Winship as it goes up ahead.
Cross the lane You're up for two as Cammy Shields have got to go by Cammy Shields Andy McGarry with the assist when chip into the lane no good and a foul is going to be called free cloth and Madison Russell had to lay off having two fouls so she had a chance to contest that she chose not to guard against foul on the 43 clock so Cluff picks up her first foul that is the third foul on The Guardian's 10 seconds left here in the first quarter Russell kicks it off right side The three bounces over the backboard So the Guardians will have 2.8 seconds to get off the last shot here in the first quarter.
Comes in to Leach.
Leach tries to throw it up ahead.
That concludes the first quarter of play with Southern Rusty leading at 19 to nine.
We'll take a break.
We'll be back with the second quarter right after production of high school basketball on Maine.

Off sideline reporter Jim Baines says the class D state championship girls, son of a rustic, opens the scoring here in the second quarter.
Russell Patty Russell I set play against the zone that time set a screen for Matty Russell.
Russell has 11 points already in this game.
The ball was last out of bounds last touched by southern Aroostook looks like it went off the foot of Matty Russell Shiels I should say so to Odessa ask you to back out on the right side reach back to address shut off the mark quickly up ahead goes big shot by Winship it'll get a hand on that I'll swing it around right side I'll shields Oh good battle for underneath and we got a trouble call get the ball back to the Guardian's tally Russell with an offensive rebound Good defense against the two on one break by southern Aroostook L.A. Leach Junior has the ball picked quickly Get it up to Matty Russell lays it in for two Maddie Russell and Russell has had a great first half Yeah yeah yes 13 points went chip the shot No good one and done and go the other way with it three point shot put up and missed that in Shield's seacoast with the rebound Got a pretty good job on the boards Have a kick out into the corner wind chip the shot off the back of the iron getting open shots look pass deflected into the hands of Winship Odessa with it to Leach in the corner too strong quickly gathered in by Alex Shields Russell kicks it down low to Kelly Russell And then with the offensive rebound Shields picks up point number eight for her The 25 to nine is the score Good ball movement side to side shot by Winship No good ball just ripped away by Kelly Russell Shields drives into the lane basket is that we'll see what was going to go against the guardians we'll see if they call that right into your living room Can't be Shields takes the contact plays through follows on 13 eight Leach the official says she shooting two but I don't think he's telling her asking good but was 33 she's telling the official at the best that went in so far above 13 Ellie leaves her first team's four so for Leach that is her first foul and the fourth team foul called the score 27 to nine and a timeout taken on the floor a reminder that most state final games are being streamed live and for free on the public basketball Facebook page at the main public YouTube page you can watch on your mobile device computer or smart TV anywhere you are just search for Maine public basketball or head to Maine public dot org or the game for all of the links here a heart for some of the rules to cover five Olivia having whatever was mentioned before a lot of Navy SEALs revisions and changes in the schedule had to be made because of the weather over the weekend as as Shields completes the three point play 131 pressure test and let's get past down into the corner.
Knocked out by the warriors pretty quiet cross insurance center right now is pass take it away by so that Aroostook passed from Russell up ahead to Kerry Shields Steele in a layup the corner too far into the corner and Odessa can't handle it so it goes out of bounds so the reverse tackle have the ball number over again for the chance Libby Anderson who's come into the game for southern Aroostook with a 30 to nine lead for 51 to play second here in the first half timeout taken by Seacoast Christian Now people are going to look at the scoreboard and think you know that seacoast but compared to last year I got to admire their efforts last year they were out of it from the very beginning and at least this year they have a plan.
They're getting good shots, they're hanging around defensively.
They just have to get the ball to go in the basket.
It's done a nice job on the on the rebound.
Yep.
Offensive boards not getting too many opportunities on the offensive end.
Haven't made enough of them.
Count subs down by 21 so that realistic with the ball the get it down to Russell kick it out the left wing the shot put up by Olivia Ellen would follow up is up it in Libby and Libby Anderson off the bench Nice crossover dribble into the lane The shot by Leach is no good and it's knocked out by southern Aroostook So the guardians will have the ball the ball along their own baseline end of the game 4 seconds second question no what do you care a heart who had checked into the game will check back out here a heart is there only saw the inbound pass is picked off by the body kick that it is Emily left Emily graduated 34 to nine.
Winship took her cross to the cloth clock shot blocked Anderson getting her hand on it quickly up ahead it goes The ball is laid up in the end.
All right.
Kimmie Shields so the Russa gets their head up right away.
Soon as they get a rebound or a steal, they're looking up right away and getting easy baskets so the drastic deflecting that one out of bounds and Ali Landry able to get a handle.
It was good thing I have to expand my scoresheet here for shields.
If she keeps this up the corner shot, it's not good bye.
Ali Leetch got numbers again.
Russell pulls up for the jumper Betty Russell brought the ball up really uncontested.
15 points for Russell Winship off the glass No good playoff has a knocked out of bounds The job by one chip attacking pressure into the game for suddenly shields goes back in the field and number 30 it comes Matty Russell jumps up nice high finish block bounce pass by the Guardian's reach will put up the shot rebound taken down by southern Aroostook and he shields comes over to Allie Shields And a three pointer put up in here by Emily Landry Landry seems like everyone from southern Aroostook can shoot the basketball You do have a lot of weapons on the floor saw the point differential on the road to the gold showdown at the top of the broadcast coming into the game Category three Hannah McGeary The seat will be Libby Anderson so Frank comes to Ellie Leach through the hands of Winship Alec Shields attacking the basket as she travels Shields had a game winning layup with 10 seconds in the final Against Wisdom, a really close game for the Warriors because they had wisdom to seed in the North, battled it out so that caustic with a four point win in that one nice pass down on the left block it is up and in by Allie Leach but pass from Winship finish by Ellie Leach it's been a rough second quarter for the guardians the first two points of the second quarter of the right baseline the shot is no good by Ellen would it hustle look up do get it up but it's take it away and stepped on the baseline is Hannah McGary all kicked Guardians will try again to get it into play a minute 38 to go find the ball first to go find the ball of all I spent my time on the golf course which you know good nice baseline out of out of bounds designed by seacoast Christian Shields gives over to Ellen Wood comes over to McGarry right side alley shields will stop and take the shot No good rebound Marie Shields The follow up by McGarry comes down to Seacoast Christian Leach drives in off the left side rebound quickly up ahead They push it to Landry No good there.
Landry is pushed from behind Schmidt for a rebound and she gets the basket to go.
It is.
There's the basket Oh, I'm sorry The rebound up in in follow the 14 three club for second oldest Emily Landry Emily Landry credit complete to three point play Cluff picks up the foul that is the 15 fouls second on Cluff Landry misses the foul shot about the only thing southern Aroostook has done wrong is miss a few free throws Miss crossover dribble nice pivot strong it high off the glass box the round picked up by Southern Aroostook arc down into the corner The alley shields along the baseline foul is going to go against Seacoast Christian It looks like Cluff to pick up foul number three corner follows the number 14 breaking ball for 36 So foul trouble for southern rustic it's certainly something that seacoast and a Christian can't afford in order to have one player on the bench last comes in to Alec Wood off the back of the iron now picked up by the guardians Leach Leach works against McGary Leach with the ball drives in left handed layup for two L.A. Great job Leach has done an outstanding job taking care of the basketball gets all that pressure that he shields kicks it out to Allie Shields Shields a three off the front of the rim rebound put up by McGary That buzzer sounds that ends the first half wins Southern Aroostook a 43 13 lead we'll be back in just a little high school basketball on Maine public television is made possible by people like you and by expect the unexpected at the University of Maine at Presque Isle committed to providing an affordable education with a personalized experience full of discovery and innovation.

As we take a look at some of the numbers from the first half, yeah, shooting is making a big difference obviously Southern Aroostook 55% and members of the seacoast Christian only getting up 15 shots free throws not doing much at either end and turnover margin favors the southern Aroostook warriors their high pressure basketball tries to force turnovers and get easy baskets at the other end of the Maine Army National Guard 55% for southerners have taken 33 shots of course a lot of them were layups by Patty Russell 43 13 the score here at the half as we mentioned before this is a rematch of last year's state championship game as we see the shirts being fired up into the crowd.
Are we safe as long as they don't point it at us I think we're all set.
We have security over here.
I thought you were security.
You are you are our security.
We're in trouble.
Big trouble.
Just taking a look at you mentioned the scoring for some of the rusty 15 points for Cammy Shields.
15 points for Matty Russell.
So I think they have a lot.
Yeah.
Somebody kids can score the basketball for the and break off with three fouls for coach Lee Petry on the Seacoast Christian side of things we said at the top of the show they only have six players and 11 bench player so they can certainly ill afford to get in and hit the foul trouble well, they basically have four for starters in a way with Ellie Odessa and Ellie Leach, Brick Cliff and Brick and Winship and then Adeline Luther and Kira Hart to take turns coming in from one another.
Right.
We pull out.
Coburg is on the bench, but injured that's right.
So coming up next after this game, we want to remind you that Southern Aroostook will be on the floor again.
Their boys team will be taking on Forest Hills for the Boys State, the state championship in Class D, and this is just one of four games going on here tonight, the orange here, but not on Main, right?

Yeah well second half just underway is Seacoast Christian has the ball to open it up pushing the ball up is Leach Leach gets it over to Cluff who has it knocked loose in southern Aroostook causing another turnover once Russell get the ball deep left corner shot by Shields Kerry she at Madison Shields rather no good luck there is Kimmie Shields here to ass up ahead in over the head of brick so a turnover puts the ball back into the hands of the warriors of three court pressure here wide open underneath shields gets it up to Matty Russell second effort no good rebound taken down no good bye Carly Russell and a travel break out at a line loser couldn't find anybody to get the ball to anybody on her team I stand corrected as usual nice pass pass comes right into you Russell Russell nice assists Madison Russell Winship the three hits a nice looking shot defense yeah defensive transition has been an issue here for seacoast when Leach pushes it up, Leach spins her way into the glass and she is fouled on her way to the bucket Russell three point best 20 quarter regulation the 40 minutes to the second always on Maddy Shields second foul on Maddy Shields That'll send Leach to the line to shoot She connects on one out of the two Russell drives into the lane has it stuffed underneath southern Aroostook a couple of cracks at it underneath but not able to make them count when Chip lays it off the glass No good on rebound no good Goes Christian in attack mode here Just unable to finish Russell from the lane Matty Russell Always under control 49 70 The score yes gives it out to L.A. Each side would chip back up to Leach Step play Throw it over the top for Winship So that Aroostook able to get a hand on it Knock it out of bounds so the Guardians will put the ball into play or try to do so on their own baseline that comes out to Winship.
Winship puts up the three no good Matty Russell pushes it up for the Warriors.
No trouble at all.
A Steal by Leach Ellie Leach will take it right to the hoop And she is fouled by Matty Russell Good left hand that time by Leach Course he starts with a nice steal there she comes over the Eurostep tries to finish with the left hand, followed by Russell a shooting to hold on Matty Russell is a third The second team foul right you're not one each collects on the first second one of the front of the rim he shields brings the ball up so that trusted so over to Landry she lets gets it back Alvin so we get the left side shot by Matty Russell though good southerners take the offensive rebound and he wrestled into the lane comes off right side to Landry now top of the circle Oh good bye Kimmie Shields oh lost by sea coast Christian they had it and turned it over so the rustic with the mess blocked out of bounds by can be shield so we'll bring it to life to the court is the guardians three right which Patrick calls out a set play hold elevator sabotage calls it is supposed the elevator doors after she gets through the chip on our way through got the ball oh it's leach the ball is loose Leach scrappy on the floor He gets up the dribble Well he reaches a battler There is a scramble underneath the ball is out of bounds It'll be southern a rustic no ball transition to of roosted 49 18 is the score but you didn't see the scoreboard You wouldn't know that by watching the fight here in the Guardian's time slot.
Really at this point they're looking just to win every play.
Yeah this is certainly the game but certainly every play.
Then let the chips fall where they may pass goes up ahead to win.
Chip lays it in for 23 Failure to convert defensively by Southern Aroostook now a battle in a high up goes out your car it's going to go to his bench right here a heart has come in for the guardian this gentleman Gary has come in for some that are mystic alley leach inbounding the ball right in front of our broadcast position.
Oh wow that's it into alley Odessa sophomore dribbles into the lane off the grass and around the rim and out shields Drives the length of the court No good paddle batted around underneath Oh Tess picks it up Oh, I had a kick about a soccer game broke out there for a minute.
That will give the ball to the Guardians.
Petrie, instructing his players where to position themselves on the floor and the ball is last touch.
Saw that a rustic is an isolate brick and wind chip in the post area.
Russell able to get a hand on it.
You're so live here Linwood comes into the game and heard the seed is Lander Android Pass Goes into a wind chip will feel good off the glass Winship gets it back as a second shot deflected picked up by Matty Russell Russell Great Pass Brooklyn He gets it up ahead to Linwood She finds the floor so well Ali Shields with a nice pass from Matty Russell's everything kind of flows through her She always has her head up she can recognize the defense anticipates delivers another assist 51 20 pass picked off by southern Aroostook Russell pass and takes it in for too many Russell entering the game for the Guardian for Adeline there comes watch this puts the ball in the left hand finishes strong and leach in for some it leaves the floor for the guardians got of flexing her right leg be dealing with a cramp C Get the mustard back It's out out old school It's making a comeback right side Winship shot across the iron would you over to Ali Shields And she travels well so that gives the ball back to the guardians 53 20 down by 33 with a minute 44 to go here in the third quarter It's the second regional title for the Guardian's second in a row last year was their first both years coming out of the number three slot in the South tournament if she does turn her left hand.
Yeah yes she did.
Shields follow up no good Russell can't get that shot to fall and Russell tracks it down in the corner yeah underneath they get it's Oliver Anderson Justin picks up her first bucket here.
The second half she has four points total Winship looking for help.
She finds Hart Hart shot no good baseball pass up ahead.
It goes to Hollywood now.
Shields lays it in for two lost baseline drive.
Nobody really impacting the ball for Seacoast Christian 57 21 we chip with it pass over the head of Kara Hartley goes out of bounds so I've got to restore will have the ball back with under 8 seconds to play here in the third coming into the game is Jasmine Wood an eighth grader 23 for southern a rustic Libya Allenwood sold out to shields and shields not able to get the shot off and that ends the third quarter 57 20 is our score we'll take a break and be back in the fourth quarter right after this production of high school basketball on Maine Public Television is made possible by people like you and by Coastal Autopsy hard selling Napa auto parts since 1981 with 29 locations across the state proudly supporting student athletes from across Maine.
Sheridan Construction, a Maine company committed to building on their promise for over 75 years Dead River Company committed to reliably delivering propane and heating oil to homes and businesses throughout Maine.
Dead river scum the University of Maine at Augusta committed to providing a quality, affordable education online, an in-person with two campuses and eight centers statewide Back here to the Cross Insurance Center, Brant Stevens, along with coach Ken Laidlaw, first possession for some of the rustic lay, lost it out.
Obviously gives the ball back to the guardians Ellie Leach back in after a little rest.
It goes a little late, but they they get it to go is that play again.
Winship to the inside yeah Hollywood with the ball out on top of the key it's taken away by wind chip and down and a foul is going to be called make the call.
But I'm usually notoriously wrong on the east.
But I thought it was Jasmine Ellwood.
I don't know what a free jazz to me.
I like.
What do you know what right team's third first on Jasmine Ellwood Leach brings it up for the guardians there are no no starters in there right now for Southern Aroostook they play at the bench knocked out of bounds by the Hoyas Sea Coast doesn't have that option, but each gets the ball in playoff off the glass too high Gary pushes it up for the Warriors 42 Olivia Illingworth Right side alley shields with it Shields loses the handle gathers it back in all is picked up by Guardians Wind Winship down hall to the left block Who gets shot No good Leach drives in Nice dish finds Winship all alone.
Great job by Ellie Leach finding Winship again Shields.
Shields gets it to go for two again.
Winship Her shot gets stuck and hit him between the rim and the backboard.
We got a problem and will you jump out there and knocked up all those?
I would that all.
But my core doesn't reach that far.
We probably shouldn't.
We could let you go if you need to hear the game.
So a realistic number of 15 shows have gone to get another basketball team.
I want to get this one loose to Russell it was supposed to the 30 year old on third trying to get the ball loose guardians inbounding the ball reach when the front works off the screen gives over to Winship Leach Jr with it is yes yes the rest up front by Olivia Ellwood will have a foul is going to go against Alex Shields Shields that will be her second and the fourth team foul number 12 Alex Fields to separate teams for so Leachman looking to put the ball into play and it's nearly stolen away it is stolen away by Maddie Russell She'll pull up at the foul line the shot off the back The ref is now suing action foul play ball is going to go on break in Winship second on her question who's the first team player in the second half down pass knocked away and picked up by Odessa Winship gets a down to Leach Hill on the right baseline Leach.
Not a whole lot of room to operate down there was able to get off a shot blocked shot does not fall added Russell in the lane I think there is hustle by Leach to try to get that ball into a teammate but instead throws it into the hands of Ali Shields, who takes it down to the other end of Play City for two nice play for a freshman.
61 24 timeout taken by the Guardian's 4 minutes and 51 seconds left to play Southern Russa brings back most of their team next year too They're going to be another handful they'll do you know a Maine high school basketball fan who is out of state or even out of the country.

Some of the cheerleaders, they left Deer Brook at around 3:00 this afternoon make their way down here to Bangor for the state championship game.
A little bit of a ride from South Berwick to give it go with the shot is partially blocked picked up by Alie Shields.
So the touristic looking for their fourth state title in the last five years great defensive effort by Ellie Leach really like her competitors passing the lane it's partially blocked Carly Russell not able to get off a clean shot on the baseline guardians and that'll get the ball back the back into the game having Carey Anderson for coach or card baseline the ball comes in to Ellwood Olivia Ellwood gives over now to Allie Shields who hits the three Ellie SEALs 64 24 calls outs play drives into the lane contact a blocking foul called against southern Aroostook So send Leach to the line to shoot 203 in a period Gary picks up the foul 15 foul first on the Gary on the line Issue two is Leach connects on the first entry The game was some on the road to number one must have a Stubbs It's greater to 21 comes into the game for coach our cart is leach on the line connects for both of those foul shots Shields dumps it down low shot his no good second effort I think there three and a half minutes to play in the state championship game Leach drives into the lane off the glass Shields quickly gets the ball up ahead unable to handle the ball cleanly as it looks at Hersey Scott for the travel versus the third eighth grader that we've seen.
That's right.
Or for coach our card we have three on the roster each comes off left side to the hands of desperate she picks it back up they need some help tries to lob it in to cloth but it's picked off by Anderson up ahead to alley shields and has it blocked as defense leach Leach goes in hard and she draws the contact she goes down onto the floor slow to pick it to get up sea coast Christian's still playing hard certainly are oh we're going to be for them here's the block for us six at the lodge shooting to level in the think if she had a do over want to go home with the bounce pass leach lead the bucket on the short end for some mistake 23 yes I know what so leach will shoot again gives her her 10th point on the game can we have two eighth graders in the game now for southern Aroostook six of those points for Leach coming on the foul line Gary drives in right block nothing there Winship pushing it up rock n Winship is fouled out in front of the seacoast Christian bench Oh, so what do we want to start for first?
So Stubbs picks up the foul seventh team foul first on the starters front to ensure we chip on the line for the first time today, she misses the foul shot taken down by a solitary stick at the far corner to go way up.
Court is McGary gives over to Jersey Nice pass pass up ahead to Winship who lays it off the glass for two of those two have connected up quite a few plays today 16 points for Winship they go baseball pass up ahead to Winship waits for the defender to go by too strong off the glass Second effort around the rim and out of the Worcester Jazz guys Jasmine Longwood The eighth grader gets on the scoreboard points for Longwood Which is to close And a timeout is called by Coach Petry with one minute 2 seconds remaining in full 62nd timeout or Seacoast Christian broadcast of the Maine state high school basketball championships has been made possible by member since 1979 thank you to the tens of thousands of people who help make this annual tradition available to fans around the world for free to show your support for public for basketball on many public television becoming ever head to Maine public dot org click the big red donate button and we thank you all very much for making these broadcasts possible Noted a number of people watching and a lot of states and even different countries.

Leach Looking to put the ball into play for the Guardians.
It's a ticking off and it's knocked out of bounds.
Yeah.
Right now see Leach and Buff after that watched play there talking it over but they're smiling over there having fun.
Yeah.
Elwood brings it across midcourt.
It's a doubted quarter and the ball is lost a jasmine Ellwood had it, but it's knocked out by the Canadians with just under 47 seconds to play All knocked out of bounds you get it will stay with southern rustic a shot left side and no good two girls down onto the floor Leach and Gary get down right side southern rustic shot no good.
Lost out of bounds last touched by seacoast Christian yes and on it not able to gather it in the crowd on the far side starts to cheer Just Jasmine Ellwood hits the two pointer under ten to play each is to clock plus will attempt the three final buzzer sounds and southern Aroostook for the fourth time in five years have captured the class D Girls State Championship with a decisive victory over the Seacoast Coast Guardians 68 very very skilled group excellent leadership Well coach they all could dribble they can pass a shoot the ball exceptionally well to just too many too many weapons for sea cross sea coast Christian to handle today how do you Russell 19 points scored the fourth in baby shield 17 points didn't score in the fourth so see the first three quarters to play those two certainly leading the way for southern Aroostook who was our very unofficial number so that's come down take a look at UNO Lou Landry whipping the that on one hand and now on the other end going up together the net is Cammy Shields JR She pulls the string a traditional wave to the crowd southern Aroostook fans showing their appreciation on the far side of the floor here to cross insurance center she said Kent just too much firepower.
68 30 just too many weapons.
Yes, a little mystic, just a superior skill department obviously so much a deeper seacoast Christian battled hard though the whole the whole way.
And you got to give them a lot of credit.

No one yet.
You know, the thing that they're really playing for is to the interviewed by champions right here in the student fight the gold picture as well.
Good.
Oh, I guess that's it.
So we mentioned this is their fourth state title in the last five years.
The one they didn't win was 20.
20.
That's right.
Just before and of course there was no world championship in 2012 it.
Yeah.
No championship in 21.
But we were able to get the tournament in, in 20 you know the Southern Rustic Warriors lost to Greenville that 42 38, but they are champions once again here to cross the German setter.
So let's see down all the floor campaigns gathering up the champs and getting ready to interview them as they move them off the court.
Two big scorers for some that Aroostook Mattie Russell had 19 points and maybe shields 17 points that you mentioned Kent.
But the only thing that southern Aroostook didn't do exceedingly well was shoot from the foul line.
I think they had one foul shot that they made right throughout the game.
They, they made a bunch of layups and they hit some threes.
Right now we'll turn things over to Jim Baynes.
Jim.
Well, you heard it four times in the last five years.
Southern Rock Warrior State Champs.
One more time, we got to talk to the seniors first year Cauley and Mattie congratulations.
And let's talk about what you planned for this week and what put your cart told you to work on this week.
Was it mostly about are you really well prepared?
Obviously, it was working about working your game and not so much worrying about the opponent, right?
Yeah, we definitely knew we just had to have defense was going to win the game.
We knew that coming in.
We knew we had to run our sets and we didn't count successful so tell us what Coach told you about this week and what did you and it was pretty much what you expected out on the court, right?
I mean, you were really well prepared.
I mean, he made sure to emphasize that it wasn't going to be the same game.
So we came out, played hard, and I think we did a really good job.
All right.
I'll give us your thoughts being the seniors, the two seniors on this team here.
You got the gold ball.
Okay.
Could you put your thoughts into words at all?
It's a perfect ending.
Yeah.
I mean, it's really bittersweet, though.
You know, we played with all of these girls since elementary school and up and don't there's been a season where we haven't been together, so it's bittersweet.
But you know, we got the good ending when Kelly said, all right, how great was Cammy and Allie on the other side here, too?
I mean, they're amazing sisters.
Yeah.
Dynamic duo.
Very good.
Here.
Let's bring in let's talk about the preparation here.
I mean, I'm it's really kind of hard to come up with anything great.
When you basically had it.
I want to see you had an easy time winning, but you knew you had a lot to offer this this year.
I mean yeah.
I mean, we knew I mean, like coming off last year, we were really like a good team and stuff.
So this year we have like almost the same team, so it feels really good.
Yeah.
All right.
Yeah.
What was the toughest part about?
Was it more so the the the regionals coming into this?
Obviously the state.
So you had a pretty easy time there, I think.
I mean, it was a it was a good game.
We worked hard.
We, like Carly said, we knew like we couldn't look back on last year.
This was a whole new game.
And we just came in and worked hard.
And like Maddie said, we knew the defense was going to win this game.
I mean, that's a tough question after a game like that.
So let me give you an easy one.
The senior leadership.
Tell us about.
Tell us about your girls over here, what they meant to you.
Oh, my word.
They mean so much like they've said.
We've played with them ever since I played basketball.
I've been playing with them and they're great leaders on and off the court.
And they set great examples for us.
And we're going to miss them so much next year.
Want to add to that?
I mean, yeah, they're just coming in like eighth grade year.
I didn't I don't know.
I was kind of scared.
I was fine.
And they just woke everyone welcomed me and like, it just felt really good.
And what were you scared of?
They're just intimidating.
Them being that good of a players or, you know, just like playing varsity in general, but playing that, like, they made it easy.
All right.
Very good.
Here, let's get coach our cart over here.
All right.
Graduation so we get to do this one more time here.
Yeah.
Winning never gets old, right?
All right.
Very good.
So tell us about the preparation here.
Obviously, this is were very well prepared.
You can look at the scoreboard and tell.
So so what what did you tell them?
What to take care of this week and how did it come out for you?
Well, I think Maddie said it.
Defense is going to win the game.
And we've been preparing a lot defensively.
But I just got good people around me, good kids, good coaching staff, good school, good administration, good support, good parents, community.
So that all makes a difference.
I very well, sorry for there a moment right now, ladies, congratulations.
Tell the camera what it's like to be stage in so congratulations to the warriors of Southern Arizona for capturing yet another gold ball to add on to the trophy case here soon.
That's right.
So Southern Rustic wraps up their season with just three losses in all of those coming to Class C schools, by the way.
That's right.
But I'll start Valley at one start.
And now we have a little bit of the same here in the next game.
Both teams, while Forest Hills played up a class and in three, three times they got beat We'll get to that game here in just a moment.
That puts the wraps on this first game coming to you from the Cross Insurance Center, Brad Stevens and coach Ken Wooden Loft, Jim Baynes More championship basketball in just a few moments.
