U.S. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky introduce Oksana markova, who took part in the McConnell Center distinguished speaker series.
McConnell and mark provost spoke on the war in Ukraine.
America supported that country's efforts and what's at stake if Russia wins.
So let's remember what's at stake here.
Russian victory in Ukraine would imperil the security and economy of all of Europe.
Our largest trading partner and strategic ally since World War Two.
And in danger, the engine of our own economic growth here at home.
If Russia prevails, there's no question that Putin's appetite for empire will actually be extended to Dido.
Raising the threat to the U.S. transatlantic alliance and the risk of war for us.
Such an outcome would demand greater permanent deployment of our military force in Europe, a much greater cost, and the support we have provided to Ukraine.
And of course, Russian victory would embolden Putin's growing alliance with fellow authoritarian regimes in Iran and China.
Think of it as an axis of evil China, Russia and Iran.
So this is not just a test for Ukraine.
It's a test for the United States and for the free world and the path toward greater security for all of us.
It's simple help Ukraine win the war.
This is a moment for swift and decisive action to prevent further loss of life and to impose real consequences on the terrorists who terrorize the people of Ukraine.
And of Israel.
And right now, the Senate has a chance to produce a supplemental of assistance that will help us to do exactly that.
Enemies abroad will be watching closely and waiting for America to falter.
Only our concrete and credible support can deter our adversaries in the future and restore security.
If, after all of that, we will not be able to stay the course and we will not win.
What message does it send to all the people who are our friends and allies, but also to this axis of evil?
What message does it send to aggressive terroristic Russia or Iran or China or terroristic Hamas regimes or anyone else?
Can we afford.
The answer to the question that of okay, in the 21st century to use brutal force to attack a peaceful country and get away with it, we will not only stop Russia, we will also stop so many who think about potential wars.
But it doesn't know whether the consequences are going to be too dire for them.
That's why this is the time to double down on support to US military and other support, but also on sanctions to Russia and Iran and other places and North Korea to isolate them even more and to prevent them from cooperating in production of the weapons and actually doing what they need to do.
Senator McConnell has come out in support of a national security package that includes aid for Ukraine and Israel.
While newly elected Republican Speaker of the House Mike Johnson is expected to advance a bill this week that only provides aid for Israel.
Senator McConnell Support for Ukraine and Israel goes against some in his own party, even in his own state.
US Representative Thomas Massie of Kentucky's fourth Congressional District says he's against sending money to Israel on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Here's what Congressman Massie said this morning.
Quote, If Congress sends $14.5 billion to Israel, on average, we'll be taking about $100 from every working person in the United States.
This will be extracted through inflation and taxes.
I'm against it.
End quote.
